Group Read, September 2020: The Magician of Lublin

Our September group read is The Magician of Lublin by Isaac Bashevis Singer. Please join in the read and post any comments you have on this thread.

I have my copy ready but probably won't be starting it until later in the month as I am participating in a group read of The Magic Mountain over at the Category Challenge.

I'll be starting this one next week, and am really looking forward to it!

Just cracked mine open

A glimpse into a lost world. Interesting mix of humor and seriousness. Enjoying this one.

This book gets a lot darker in the second half! Goodness. Is anybody else reading?

I have started an audio version as read by Larry Keith. I am still in the early parts and so far enjoying learning about Yasha and his many infidelities.

Overall a good read, a completely different book from others I have read on the list.

I have completed listening to the book and found it a very engaging morality tale. I thought the narrator, Larry Keith, did an excellent job with the material.

I imagine it would be great as an audiobook - it feels like a tale, rather than a novel in some ways.

I loved the first section, but must not having been paying enough attention to Yasha's religious questioning, because the epilogue doesn't seem to fit the character (except in its excess!).
