I have seen HogFather on TV and might buy it on DVD. It seems there has/had been a screen adaption of "the Colour..." I haven't seen any reviews etc. though.
Any thoughts or links would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance, Guido.

I got it for xmas:) I enjoyed it, they didn't leave a lot of the plot out that i can think of. I liked the actor choices, though some people dislike sean astin as twoflower but I thought he captured his good natured naivety well. And Terry does a cameo again!
my only major negative is that it was really long, but then if it hadn't been long they would have cut more out and we would be complaining about that.
Hope that was helpful:)

I suppose it will be a while before we can get it in the US. I couldn't get Hogfather till it had been out a year or two. But am looking forward to it as itThe Colour of Magic was my first Discworld read. 8^)

It was shown in New Zealand last year, and I enjoyed it to begin with, but then became impatient as lines that were important for certain characters were given to others. I think that there was just too much in both books to do justice to each.

Just ordered "the Colour of Magic" from my local
DVD shop. It will though be 3+ weeks before I get it. I hope to pickup HogFather soon as well.
But, bye the bye, which other TP novels would you like to see made into film?
And who would/should star in them?
I suppose this could be taken further. Which, even dead star, could you see playing which role.
Thus I can see Bogart as Vines! etc. etc.

Thanks Vanye.
Nice to see other "old farts" who like the Diskwourld series.
I have rethought my ideal Vines. How about Robert Mitchem. And I can really see Margaret Rutherford as Nanny Ogg. I still can't envisage a Granny W.
Ideas? ideas? ideas...
Turkeys???

The only thing I really hope they don't do, is make a big hoolywood blockbuster out of a discworld book, I like them as small screen adaptions.
And I want to see maskerade as a film:)

If Terry Pratchett done his homework with a large-screen adaptation as well as he has done for Hogfather, I don't see what the problem would be.

I was told that some people in here would be interested in this ... (Even if they can't spell colour correctly )

Yeah! I watched it & enjoyed it too. Only wished they could have used a real Orangutan as the librarian. Had a lot of my other favorite characters including: Death, Rincewind, & The Luggage! Oook! 8^)

I quite enjoyed "The Colour of Magic". In spite of how much I like Discworld, I do not think that the first two books are the best that Discworld has to offer, so it only ends up being a decent telemovie at best.
I didn't have a problem with most of the scenes cut or changed, considering that they had to cram two books into three hours. I particularly liked how the disjointed nature of the first novel was fixed, and the omniprescent narrator worked quite well. The acting on the whole was pretty good, and the scenery they picked, particularly for the second part, was excellent.
There are a few problems, though. Although the special effects for the Discworld itself, and the ending scene were quite good, the special effects for the spells that the wizards used looked far too silly. The fight scenes were awful. But those are really minor complaints.
The two main characters that I had problems with were Twoflower and the Librarian. I had always pictured Twoflower as a gentleman of Asian appearance, particularly given the story of "Interesting Times" was a satire of feudal Asia. Nor was his character done well even should I disregard the appearance - Twoflower is meant to be eternally cheerful, wearing a huge grin on his face and a camera around his neck, even in the face of certain doom. The changes to his character do not work at all. The Librarian was completely wrong - he looked awful, not even remotely credible as an ape.
On the whole, though, it was an extremely good adaptation of a decent pair of novels.
Now, does anyone have any idea what Discworld novel will be adapted next?

I loved Going Postal. I'm glad to see that it's being made into a telemovie.
Apparently, they were planning to do Sourcery, but David Jason wasn't available. It's a pity; he's one of the few actors whose name I know because the actor is good in whatever role they take.

How about Lords and Ladies? I'd like to see the faerie folk portrayed as the predators they were in the book.

There was a cartoon version of Soul Music made, too.
Perhaps we need a thread dedicated to the more obscure Discworld collectables - videogames, the old animated shows, and anything else that is not so common.

Just got my TCOM DVD from Netflix. I'm enjoying it. It's been some time since I've read the book, and I had always envisioned Twoflower as Asian, but Sean Astin does a fine job. As do the other actors, IMO. I think I prefer it to Hogfather. I am hoping to have time to watch part II today. Love the special effects, etc.
