Loading... The End of Her (2020)by Shari LapeñaStephanie and Patrick are exhausted and sleep deprived from dealing with twins with colic when woman shows up from Patrick's past. She's making accusations about the accidental death of Patrick's first wife. Stephanie rejects her lies until more info comes out and she starts questioning what she knows about her husband. But the story isn't as simple as that. Erica has made contact with other people and made other startling announcements. Where will it all end? I felt this story was a bit over the top with everyone's dark side being shown. I can't say I liked any of the characters. OK suspense. ( ) "When trust goes, how quickly love disappears and elf preservation begins." what intrigue! So many despicable characters! There is great character development throughout the novel and so many questions! Patrick the grieving, remarried widower is accused of murdering his first wife. Stephanie is the oblivious, overwhelmed new mother of twins. Erica is the conniving femme fatale. This book will leave you guessing until the end! No author writes about crazy, manipulative, psychotic women Like Shari Lapena! This is not to say the male characters are innocent angels nope they seldom are. Her books suck you in from page one and don’t let up until the last page. Think you have the story figured out and who is good and bad? Boon the next chapter throws what you thought was the case out the window! I loved this book. Stephanie and Patrick are a happy couple with a beautiful home and a loving family. But when a woman from Patrick's past reappears, their perfect life starts to come undone. As Stephanie delves deeper into the mystery of this woman's identity, she discovers shocking secrets that threaten to destroy everything she holds dear. A quick thriller with twists throwing you left and right! The End of Her is a chilling peek at the dark side of marriage and the unintended consequences of keeping secrets. The End of Her by Shari Lapena is a 2020 Bantam Press publication. Stephanie was aware that Patrick, her husband, and the father of her newborn twins, lost his first wife tragically, but she didn’t know all the grisly details- until a woman from Patrick’s past shows up claiming that his wife did not die by accident- that in fact- Patrick had murdered her... The couple initially believes this is merely a blatant attempt at extortion, but the accusations go further than they ever imagined. As more details emerge, Stephanie begins to have her own doubts about Patrick’s innocence… I’ve noticed my reading choices of late have been either contemporary women’s fiction or cozy mysteries with a smattering of other genres here and there- but no psychological thrillers for quite some time. So, finding myself in the mood for a good PT or Domestic thriller- however you want to categorize it- I turned to Shari Lapena. This is my fourth novel by this author, and I knew she would deliver just want I was craving… Yes, of course, I guessed some big plot twists almost from the start, but part of the fun here is watching how everything is going to unfold. Seeing the best made plans go awry and watching the way the characters coped with the curveballs and revelations was absorbing and entertaining. Overall, a solid, satisfying Lapena thriller. 4 stars Poorly written which was surprising because i've enjoyed other books by this author. Too many extra characters that made the whole thing just messy, and none of the vaguely intersecting characters ever really came to a conclusion.Almost like the author had to hurry and meet a deadline so she just threw in an epilogue and called it done. Very dissapointing. Stephanie and Patrick are recently married. Parents to new born twins, they are both sleep deprived and struggling but are hopeful that it won’t last forever. But then Patrick’s past comes to haunt him in the form of Erica Voss. She is Patrick’s ex wife, Lindsey’s best friend and she insists that Patrick’s first wife’s death wasn’t accidental but had been murdered by Patrick. Erica, the ever greedy and ruthless woman, begins to blackmail them to keep her mouth shut and avoid a re-investigation of the case. Though they refuse to fall for Erica’s plan, Stephanie's trust in her husband begins to falter and doubts in their relationship begin to crop up. This is a well written fast and engrossing read. The characters are all amazing and I don’t think I have ever felt a kind of hatred towards any character like I did with Erica Voss. The twists in the plot were good, that you couldn’t predict what happens next. I only disappointed for me was that some of the sub plots felt kind of unfinished and the epilogue, though amazing, left me hanging. Nevertheless, an excellent read! Spoiler included So many interconnected lines of plot that twist and turn. Liked the ending because .... oops, can’t tell. Stephanie, exhausted mother of twins, is put through the wringer when her husband is reinvestigated for the murder of his first wife which he has recently revealed was a tragic accident or at least that’s what he wants his new wife to believe. The reader goes through the wringer too; who to trust? Who is the real liar? What to do about it? WOW....... i have no words for that ending. I lied, I do. WTAF! This was a 4 - 4.5 stars psycho - domestic thriller. Lots of lies, secrets, blackmail, and cheating. Lots of fun. It kept me turning the pages and I needed to know who the villain was. I am surprised to guess it correctly, but the ending?! C'mon are you kidding me? |
