Book description
Alfred Deakin wrote 'The federal story : the inner history of the federal cause' during his lifetime but it was not published until 1944, 25 years after his death. His son-in-law, Herbert Brookes edited the manuscript for publication and it contains a foreword by W.A. Watt, a politician who knew Deakin.
The later publication 'And be one people' : Alfred Deakin's federal story' (intro. Stuart Macintyre, 1995) is the same book - it lacks the foreword by Watt and the introduction by Brookes, instead containing a scholarly introduction by the historian Stuart Macintyre.
