Short and sweet, the little children's books tend to look at a few scenes as an "episode" and for you to continue with the next book. Graphics are well-sketched and penciled in while being fun and detailed for the small size. The story is an intriguing one that should easily draw in young minds as the brother and sister discover an alluring guidebook, fight little goblins in the yard trying to open it, and start seeing things of another reality. A worthy start. 4 instead of 5 stars as even more could have been added to spice it up, but overall I'm pleased with this introduction to the Spiderwick books. ( )

The Spiderwick Chronicles follows a sibling duo as they battle goblins and other unfriendly creatures on their many adventurous. This book can be used to introduce students to fantasy, science fiction and be used as mentor text to guide their writing.

What a horrible family. Not a single decent role model in the book.
The story line is a bit stale and cliched; I didn't care for these books at all. ( )
