Started this thinking it was a series of short stories. Found it was her exploration of some of the characters in her fantasy novels. I had not read any and am not into fantasy, vampires or angels so did not get into the 1st story. Stopped there. ( )

This was very informative. It helped me remember the things I forgot and also helped me understand the society of the Blue Bloods. I lived how she put in different stories to explain why the charters were that way and also answering some of the questions I had about the series. It was definitely enjoyable to read. ( )

Background: Keys to the Repository is a supplementary text in the Blue Bloods series. It gives an in-depth look into the Repository files and information regarding the vampires and their past lives.

Review: Rated 2 stars-- Interesting read, but it really did not tell me anything I did not already know. Yes, there were a few short stories that took place before and after other parts of the series, but I feel like those pieces when they were missing were intended to have a bigger purpose, and that my imagination filled in those gaps a little better than the stories told here.

I think that this book would be good for someone who is interested in the characters, who maybe has not read the series, but then some of it might also be confusing. I am really not sure what this was intended to give the avid readers of this series...luckily I borrowed it from the library.

I liked having this little companion to the series. Some of it was a little redundant if you've read all the books, but I really enjoyed a break down of past lives, conduits and human familiars, as well as the angel names for the main characters. I also really enjoyed the little stories that weren't included in the books. An extra little glimpse into the world that I've come to love! Now it's back to the real meat of the series! ( )

This novella read like a text book. I know it's a kind of who's who among Blue Bloods, but it was kind of dry. I did enjoy Kingsley's remarks in some areas. ;) I was stoked about the short stories in here. I know I've read the one with Dylan before, but it was great seeing the emotion of Jack on their last night at Perry Street. I recommend this for those that want to know more about the characters. Also, if you have a hard time with what the words in the Sacred Language mean, this book has a nifty little appendix with the definitions.

The Keys To The Repository, a companion book was released on 29 June 2010. It contains short stories and information on Schuyler, Mimi, Bliss and others. This book does not continue from The Van Alen Legacy.

A Short recap and review of all the characters and stories. I am not big on recaps but I did enjoy the few shorts that peeked into new stories. I am looking forward to The Pack series. It looks really interesting. ( )

This was the first “place holder” book in the series, with a “behind-the-scenes” look at various aspects of Blue Blood society. De la Cruz uses Repository files to give the back story behind each of the main characters in the previously released books, while including a few “untold” stories straight from the mouths of Jack, Kingsley, Dillon and Schuyler. Companion books like this are always fun! ( )

It was an interesting read but I enjoy the actual stories a lot better. A lot of the information in here was interesting but I had already pieced together through my readings of the other books. ( )

this one was just okay, mainly letters and just summaries of the previous four books. Nice as an add-on, but not necessary for the series. 2.5 stars ( )

Keys to the Repository by Melissa de la Cruz is really a companion book to the series, rather than a continuation of the action. In the introductory letter from the author, Cruz says, “The Repository Files, which include character profiles, were written by rather crotchety historians who work for the humorless Committee, so you might find their estimation of the characters a little astringent.” (page 5)

The book chronicles the series up to the fourth book, provides some additional short stories/chapters that may have been cut from those books or that provide additional background to the story. In many ways, these short stories are the missing pieces or scenes that some readers may have wanted to see, like the big breakup scene between Jack and Schuyler or what happened to Dylan Ward when he disappeared. One of the most endearing elements of Jack and Schuyler’s relationship is the books that they share with one another, and upon their first meeting, he gives her The Plague by Albert Camus and Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen, two seemingly unrelated books, though both are about love and longing.

Here's the thing, if you're curious about the series but not quite sure if you want to follow it, you can start with this. It's gives you a fair picture of de la Cruz's interpretation of Vampires. I, personally, am impressed more than anything. She really owned it not just with the history and mythology but came up with terminologies and jargons to accompany the story. That in my book is astounding, you can tell that this world is very real to her and de la Cruz was, and hopefully still is, inspired when she conceptualized the series. ( )

This is a great companion book to the Blue Blood series. While this book is not a new story in the Blue Blood series, it provides background information on the characters, the Blue Blood society and their legends.

This book gives you a great overview of the series and the main characters in the series, even providing new detail to characters you thought you knew all about. I loved how this book was organized, with files on each characters and on the Blue Bloods myths and then Melissa de la Cruz would have a short story after each file to go along with what you just read. I really loved the short stories that go with the book series. It was great seeing some events from different perspectives, or learning more about a characters life that Is unseen in the actual book.

Having not read the Blue Blood series in a while, this book helped to refresh my mind about what has occurred in the last books and made me extremely excited for the release of Misguided Angel. I loved learning more about the characters and seeing, in a way, how Melissa de la Cruz formed this complex Blue Blood series and created all these characters. This book is a must read for any fan of the Blue Blood series who wishes to learn more about the characters and events that take place in the books ( )

This book is suppose to be a companion novel for the series and I can honestly say that it did not tell me anything I didn't know. However, the best part about it was reading the reports made and actually knowing what someone said when questioned by the blue blood council. If you love the series then you should read this novel. A short little book to fill the spaces between Blue Blood novels. While not a novel itself, Cruz gives us a few glimpses into the history of the Blue Bloods, as well as the characters we know well (and some we don't). She also includes a few short stories, which are fun. Especially the one about Bliss and the Hounds of Hell (or whatever they're called), which is potentially a new (and exciting) series. ( )

I didn't think that I was going to be interested in this book. But, I found I was very interested in the background of all the characters. It was a great read and filled in some of the gaps. ( )

When I first read about this book I wasn't too excited since I'm not a big fan of companion books to series I enjoy. However, when I was offered the chance to review it I thought why not give it a try. I'm am glad that I did. It is filled with "files" on each of the main characters giving more background of which angel they are, their conduits and character observations. There are also short stories that fill in gaps from the rest of the books so we get to see more of Dylan's background, meetings between Jack and Schuyler and what happened between Kingsley and Mimi that brought them closer together. The best part in my opinion was that we get to a glimpse of Cruz's next series, Wolf Pact. It is just tantalizing enough to leave you wanting to read more and I cannot wait for the first book to come out. The book closes with the first two chapters of Misguided Angel just to wet your appetite for its release later this year. I would highly recommend this series for anyone who is a fan of the Blue Bloods series. It has me wanting to reread the entire series. ( )

Contrary to what I originally thought this isn't the next book in the Blue Bloods series, instead it is a kind of companion to the series. It is a good addition to the series and has some great stories in it.

This book is an conglomeration of a variety of things. There are some great short stories that fill in missing pieces. We get a story about Schuyler and Jack's first rendezvous at the house where they meet secretly. Another story about Schuyler and Jack's last meeting from Jack's point of view. A short story featuring Bliss that introduces De La Cruz's new Wolf Pact series. And another story that tells up what happened to Dylan Ward for the time he was missing earlier in the series.

In addition to these stories there are short profiles on all of the different members of the families. Appendices discussing all of the side characters and all of the canine familiars. As well as an appendix going through terminology.

Overall the stories were good, the extra information was interesting. It made me realize how complicated this series has gotten since I picked up the first book in the series and thought, huh well that was a pretty simple story. I would say this is a must read for fans of the series. I really enjoy De La Cruz's writing a lot and love this world she has created.

This isn't necessarily a book you need to own, although the appendices are nice to have for reference when reading the series. I would recommend buying it used or getting it from the library unless you are a super huge fan and need to own the whole collection. ( )

This is probably just something to keep the Blue Bloods fans happy while we wait for the real next book. :)

It's pretty neat, though--a summary of the series so far (as told through repository reports and notes), plus short stories and scenes from different characters' perspectives.

It was definitely fun, but for the serious fan only. Otherwise, I think you'd just be annoyed. ( )

Eeek - this is one of those horrible books that contains short stories and interesting facts about characters. It isn't a proper book at all.

I personally have a deep hatred of short stories. I never read them. I avoid them like the plague.

There were a few tidbits of interesting facts I enjoyed reading. For the most part, however, I skipped the short stories and skimmed over the diary entries and character descriptions. It took me about 10 minutes to finish. ( )

This is a great companion to the Blue Bloods Series! I loved the backstory on all the characters and cannot wait for Wolf Pact and Misguided Angels.

It was really interesting to get the little snippets of stories from a different point of view and the between the books insight.

The thing I like about this series is the premise, it is fresh and innovative and a great take on history. And this book gave us (fans of the Blue Bloods Series) even more to chew on while we wait for the next book and the new spin-off series with Bliss.

I liked the humor some of the records have like in Kingsley’s records where he puts in how gorgeous he is and Renfield believes the records are tampered with then an aside by Kingsley to say yes indeed he did tamper with them.

I do however wish the map on pages 162 & 163 would have been a one-page map as it is hard to read with the crease in the middle of it.

All in all this is a great companion to the series even if only to refresh your memory of what has happened in the previous books.
