Building on the work of the Geostationary Lightning Mapper we designed and built for NOAA's GOES-R series of satellites, we've been selected to develop and build LMX, the next-generation lightning mapper that will be integrated into NOAA's future GeoXO weather and climate satellites. LMX will detect, locate and measure the intensity, duration and extent of lightning flashes in near-real-time, providing persistent severe weather observations of the Western Hemisphere, improving storm analysis and prediction, and increasing lead time to detect tornado development.
