You can really see how much fun I'm having in that first picture~ My first ever NY Code & Coffee and it happened to be their third anniversary, congrats! Ended up having a blast meeting people doing 100Devs (shoutout to Raisa, Sarah, and Tina for being inspirations that I can get through Resilient Coders) and a last minute encounter with Richard! Definitely looking forward to the next events!

It’s been a while since I’ve updated my Linkedin community on my adventures in data. In an effort to not overthink things, I’ll just tell you what’s up!! This July was my first full year volunteering with NY Code & Coffee. I first entered the space back in Jan of 2023, fresh out of my Bootcamp and looking to tap into a community and find camaraderie in this new world of tech. [Shout Out to NYC Tech Talent Pipeline!] Truthfully, I got so much more than that. I was warmly welcomed into a community that respected how I quietly moved through a space and welcomed my presence as a newbie to the world of tech. Often, I find networking overwhelming and daunting and so I was glad the space doubled as an opportunity to co-work. I could get coffee and chat with people, sit in on a talk or workshop, or handle my business and work on my resume/projects. Since then, I joined the team -- first as a volunteer data analyst, then as an organizer. I helped out at the front desk, created the sign-in sheets and learned how to brew coffee sans pods [I have NEVER been a barista! Thank you Daisha Davis for the mini lesson!) I’ve learned a lot about myself and community building in the process. Can being a leader be anxiety inducing? YES… AND yes, I make mistakes…and that’s ok. Learning opportunities are found everywhere, especially in mistakes. Reminder to myself and everyone out there: this job market is hard to navigate AND I’m more resilient than I give myself credit for. I’m truly grateful for finding a community that supports me through the ebbs and flows of this trying job search process.
