Is it Taboo to Stretch a Screen? Anyone else get majorly bugged by letterboxing (those pesky black bars) on streaming services? Sometimes it gets so bad, I'm tempted to jump through hoops and find alternate means to use the "fill to screen". Seriously, why can't streaming apps like Amazon Prime, Disney+, or Max let us adjust the aspect ratio? This goes for Paramount+, Starz, and MGM+ too. On the other hand, basic third-party players like VLC, MX Player, Just Player, Night Player, Stremio, and Kodi all offer options like "Fill," "Fit to Screen," or "Stretch." TVs "allow" it, but it's a lackluster solution, usually just a partial or full zoom. YouTube does work with VLC using "Open Network Stream," but it's not the smoothest experience. I am a big fan of stretch, fit screen, and fill (But Not Zoom That Crops!): Stretching feels more immersive, and honestly, who wants black bars eating up screen space? Are most people purists where it's believed stretching the image is disrespectful to the director's vision, as it alters the intended aspect ratio. Preserving the aspect ratio ensures you see the film exactly as it was meant to be seen. #StreamingStruggles #MovieNightFail #FillTheScreen #AspectRatioDebate #HomeTheaterSetup #FilmTwitter #MovieLovers #Netflix #DisneyPlus #HBOMax #VLC #Kodi #Stremio #BlackBarsBeGone #TheStruggleIsReal #FirstWorldProblems

Warner Bros. Discovery and Disney Entertainment are bringing us back to the future with their new Disney+, Hulu, and Max bundle. When we thought cable was out, D2C apps brought it back – reinvented and repackaged for the streaming era. This move underscores the evolving landscape of digital media but also harkens us back to familiar models, just now served up via new technology. As we enter this "new" era, let’s take a moment to appreciate the journey. After all, the more things change, the more they stay the same. We've evolved from cable to streaming wars and now back to bundles. It’s like watching your favourite rerun but in higher definition and with more confusion about what app it's showing on. Is this the anticipated future, or are we just remixing the classics? #MediaEvolution #ContentStrategy #media #content #cable #IPTV #ott #apps

Streaming Media Expert: Industry Analyst, Writer and Consultant. Chairman of the NAB Show Streaming Summit (dan@danrayburn.com)
This summer, Disney and Warner Bros. Discovery announced they will launch a new streaming bundle including Disney+, Hulu and Max. There are so many questions we don't know. What will it cost? Will 100% of the content in Max be available in the new bundle? If Disney is handling the billing and support, as reported, who's handling support if a customer has a problem with Max? Like wholesale deals, discounts don't help the bottom line regarding profitability and ARPU. It sounds like Max will offer Disney a wholesale price like the wholesale deals we see streaming companies do with wireless carriers. Will subscribers to the new bundle be able to include the Max B/R Sports Add-On, or will they have to sign up with Max directly? The bundle will be offered as both an ad-supported and ad-free plan. WBD earnings are Thursday, May 9th, so I expect we will hear some more details. Press release: https://lnkd.in/eXARxYZy
