Synopsis[]

Zaruba reflects on Kouga's growth as a knight and the origins of Kouga as Garo are revealed.

Summary[]

Kouga is training with Zaruba. As Zaruba is giving directions to Kouga, Kouga decides to place him next to Kaoru and Gonza in frustration. Gonza and Zaruba reminisce about a young Kouga.

In the past, Kouga is watching Taiga Saejima train on the beach. Taiga subsequently gives Kouga his first Soul Metal blade, which Kouga is unable to lift. Taiga explains how Soul Metal reacts to the will of its wielder. Taiga then trains with Kouga. Taiga uses Zaruba to help Kouga train, Kouga starts to battle the virtual Horrors, but loses focus before recommencing his training.

Zaruba senses a Horror as him and Kouga are walking and Taiga asks Kouga to stay where he is as Taiga investigates. Kouga looks through a shop window at a few toys as an old toymaker approaches him and gives him a toy frog. Taiga comes to get Kouga.

The Old Toymaker passes by Taiga while he and Kouga are eating. As Taiga takes out his blade, Noul pleads with Kouga who tries to protect Noul before he is kidnapped. Taiga transforms into Garo and stabs Noul as he is holding Kouga hostage. Taiga quickly defeated Noul. He slaps Kouga before they head home.

A younger Gonza greets Taiga and Kouga as he feeds the pair. Gonza dries Kouga's hair and reads him a bedtime story as he falls asleep. Gonza asks Taiga if he is still searching for Barago. Taiga talks about how he missed his chance to save his friend from darkness. He leaves alone to find Barago as Kouga wakes up.

Taiga finds Barago. Kouga watches as Barago and Taiga fiercely battle. Taiga transforms into Garo to battle Barago. As Garoken falls to the floor, Kouga attempts to pick it up. Barago seizes the opportunity to attack Kouga, but Taiga steps between the two, taking a fatal blow to the stomach. Taiga damages Baragos face, which resembles that of a Horror, causing Barago to flee. Taiga falls to the ground and dies. Through Zaruba, Taiga is able to leave one last message for Kouga, that he is to become Garo.

Kouga tries to lift the Garoken as Gonza watches. Using a crane, Gonza manages to momentarily lift the sword, however it falls and remains stuck in the ground.

Kouga forms a bond with Zaruba and sees a ghost lady, which he runs from, this completes his bond with Zaruba. Kouga keeps training until he can lift Garoken from its position in the ground.

Back in the present, Gonza helps Kouga prepare to go on patrol with Zaruba.

Trivia[]

  • The episode reveals one of two tragedies which motivated Kouga as the Golden Knight Garo.
  • Because Barago was clad in a hooded robe and only summoned his corrupted Makai Armor's bracelets during his murder on Taiga, the young Kouga believed his father's killer at the time being a high-tier Horror, though Zaruba knew the truth but kept it to himself so it won't distract his master's immediate successor.
