The Night Mission is a British comic inspired by The Lion Guard. It was published by Panini Comics on May 4, 2017, as part of The Lion Guard Magazine.

Synopsis[]

Introduction[]

While sneaking about the Pride Lands with his clan mates, Chungu expresses concern to Janja that the Lion Guard will catch them, but Janja points out that the team is sleeping. Unbeknownst to the clan, a bat catches them in the act and flies off to warn the Lion Guard. Kion thanks the bat for the warning, then leads his team to ward off the danger.

Meanwhile, the hyenas target a sleeping gazelle. However, before they can enact their plan, the Lion Guard approaches to protect the gazelle. The clan attempts to flee back to the Outlands, but Chungu accidentally leads Cheezi in the wrong direction. Janja decides to take advantage of his lackeys' mistake in the hopes that the Lion Guard will not chase after them. Then Cheezi and Chungu can bring back prey for the rest of the clan.

Beshte overhears Janja's scheming, and Kion decides to ward off the duo before they can do any harm. When Beshte suggests splitting up to find them faster, Fuli offers to use her speed, while Ono volunteers to utilize his incredible night vision.

Ono's path[]

Ono quickly pinpoints Chungu and leads Beshte in the right direction. Chungu catches on to the Lion Guard's plan and tries to hide in some leaves. He then overhears Beshte telling Ono that he had been wrong, for Chungu is nowhere in sight. Relieved, Chungu comes out of hiding, only to find himself face-to-face with Beshte and Ono, who had tricked him. Chungu makes one last desperate escape attempt, but ends up falling down a steep slope.

Fuli's path[]

Fuli, Bunga, and Kion follow hyena tracks to the mouth of a cave, where Fuli catches sight of Cheezi's eyes gleaming in the dark. From within the cave, Cheezi continues trying to hide, but is ordered to leave by a snake. Frightened, Cheezi flees the cave, only to slide off the edge of a precipice.

Ending[]

At the border of the Outlands and the Pride Lands, Janja waits impatiently for his cronies. As he waits, Cheezi and Chungu suddenly slide down opposite ridges and ram into their leader. Janja accuses them of being useless, but Chungu points out that they are usually sleeping at night. From nearby, the Lion Guard watches in satisfaction, with Kion commenting that perhaps the clan can win in their dreams.
