Elex. The best RPGs available in PS Plus

Table of Contents

  1. Year: 2017
  2. Developer: Piranha Bytes
  3. Platforms: PC, PS4, Xbox One
  4. In a nutshell: a bit of SF and a bit of fantasy

What's Elex about?

The creators of the iconic Gothic returned in 2017 with quite a different game. Elex is set in a post-apocalyptic world where magic and advanced technology coexist. In the game, we find the planet Magalan, which experienced a huge meteorite explosion years ago. As a result, the civilization that flourished there was destroyed and only a few survivors remained to build a new world.

However, the impact was not the only catastrophe – with it, a new element, called elex, was introduced, and it could be used in weapons, so, as it usually happens, it became the cause of constant struggle. We play as Jax, a general who belonged to one of the three leading factions on the planet, but as a result of betrayal, he became a lonely wanderer, trying to start everything from scratch in order to secure a new future.

Why is it worth playing?

Situating history in a world where both technological advancement and magical skills show power at the same time seems to be quite an interesting solution. Elex proposes a post-apocalyptic version of a science fiction adventure in the open world, with incredibly rich exploration. As in Gothic, one of the most important elements of the game is combat, although it's often considered very underdeveloped and coarse. Additional elements characteristic of RPG, i.e. crafting and side missions, complete this colorful and eventful world and make it worth delving into.
