Lost Ark: Gems - what are they, how to get them? Lost Ark guide, walkthrough

On this page of the Lost Ark tutorial you will learn what gems are, how to obtain them, and what the fusion and refaceting processes are.

Last update: 21 June 2022

Here you will read what gems are in Lost Ark, how to upgrade them through fusing, how to change their properties by refaceting them, and how to acquire them.

What are gems?

Gems are an added functionality of upgrading the character - or more specifically, their abilities - through the use of special stones that passively play one of the two roles:

  1. Damage Increase - triangular shape,
  2. Cooldown Reduction - circular shape.
Gems will become available once you advance to Tier 2 - Lost Ark: Gems - what are they, how to get them? - Character development - Lost Ark Guide

Gems will become available once you advance to Tier 2. In the character window (P) you can see the Gems tab. This is where you can place the gems you acquire. As soon as you place them in free slots, they will passively improve the indicated skills. You can place gems of any level - the higher, the bigger bonus they offer - transfer them to your inventory at any time, or upgrade them. You cannot wear two gems with the same qualities, even if they have different levels (e.g. increasing damage of the same skill).

Maximum gem level is 10 - damage is increased by 40% and cooldown is increased by 20%.

How to get gems?

The main source of gems are Boss Rush. At the beginning, you will usually receive low-level gems, which you can, however, fuse. You also have a chance to get them in Chaos Dungeons by defeating Field Bosses if they appear on a given day in the calendar. You can also trade them at the market.

Fusing gems

From the inventory (gem icon), you can exchange any three gems of the same level, for one gem of a higher level - Lost Ark: Gems - what are they, how to get them? - Character development - Lost Ark Guide

From the inventory (gem icon), you can exchange any three gems of the same level, for one gem of a higher level. Depending on the type (Damage/Cooldown): if you place 3 gems of the same type, you will receive a higher gem of that type as well. By placing two identical ones, you have a random chance that the new gem will be of one category or the other. Fusing is free.

Due to the numerous level 1 gems in the early stages of Tier 2, it is a good idea to set Auto-Fuze Stg. in the options to automatically swap low-level gems in your inventory for higher-level ones.

Refaceting

When you enter Tier 2, Gem Expert will become available in cities - a red gem icon - Lost Ark: Gems - what are they, how to get them? - Character development - Lost Ark Guide

When you enter Tier 2, Gem Expert will become available in cities - a red gem icon. They allow you to refacet/re-roll selected gems, with the caveat that the type or value will not change - only the skill for which the gem effect is applied.

Each refaceting costs silver - Lost Ark: Gems - what are they, how to get them? - Character development - Lost Ark Guide

Each refaceting costs silver. The price increases with the level of the gem. If you don't have one that suits your needs, you can either leave it for fusion later, or put it on the market - selling unwanted gems and buying ones you want is more profitable. If you have Crystalline Aura, you can re-roll from the pet level.
