Accidental Alien Brides #3

Wed to the Alien Brute

Rate this book
My dreams of marrying a hot alien came true— except the grumpy brute can’t stand me.

I am the only one excited —okay, delighted— at finding myself married to a hulking, alien warlord. I’ve always been into scales and tails, and this big green beefcake is right up my alley. Except, he’s not into me. But I want my fun, and that’s the very least I can get out of this arranged marriage.

I’m determined to get my way, and I’m sick of being ignored. When my grumpy husband leaves for the capital, I have an evil plan: stow away on his ship and wear him down with my sunny disposition.

Except, he’s not going to the capital. He’s scoping out a secret base, and he is furious with me. But when the enemy Roth board our ship, endangering his mission and me, his grouchy front cracks. If we want to survive, he’ll have to realize there’s more to me than sunshine and rainbows.

And I’ll have to figure out if I'm brave enough to give him what he wants: love.

Monster romance readers!!

If you’re obsessed with monster romance, then you travel to another planet and you discover that that weird ceremony you just did was actually your wedding to some (hot, tall, and weird peened) alien? DO NOT gleefully proclaim you now get to F a Monster. They don’t like to be called that 😆

This book is all about Bex, romance reader extraordinaire, trying desperately to get her alien husband Dergoz (aka the Brute 😉) to ~dick her down already~ (her words, not mine) 💀

In a silly, totally joking way, I felt personally attacked by how much romance novels have addled this heroine’s brain. I mean, her forced proximity one bed trope scheme made a lot of sense to me. But seeing how confused her friends were when she started talking about her ‘trousseau’… are we okay? Should we be worried about ourselves over here in romance book land?

… Nah! Because Bex was totally right. Slightly scary, broody, super hot vibrating peen alien guy who’s obsessed with you and eating 🐈? Amazing. Human lady with the horndog level of your average romance reader and just wants to have freaky sex, discovering love in the process? Even better!

This was just pure joy, alien romance amazingness. It was so funny and so steamy! And by the end Bex had Dergoz reading Orc romances (Husband Buddy Read, anyone?)… which he then explained to the alien guys who haven’t figured out how to woo their human wives yet. Oh my, the next few books are going to be the best thing I’ve ever read, I can just tell 🤣🤣

This one was just alright to me. There were a few funny moments and some of the new reveals kept it interesting. But I just didn't care for Dergoz and Bex as a couple. They are the weakest addition thus far to this series..

I'm actually more interested in reading about the rightful Roth King, Nydo and the Arco, Reif, than I am about the next few couples of the Sueven males.. but I know there will be more set up in these books, for the species' I'm most interested in, before I actually get to read their stories.

I think this is the last book out for now in this series.. not sure when I'll return to it though, when the next book comes out.

Based on books 1-3, I would recommend this series.

Hilarious & Chaotic Monster Romance

QUICKLOOK:
This book was a mixed bag of marbles! Hilarious enemies to lovers, sweet fated mates, naughty monster romance, a pet companion, action/adventure, a HEA and much more.

You'll need a little backstory to get up to speed (skip over if you've read prev books)

BACKSTORY:
Female Federation officers from Earth were unknowingly tricked, by their own Federation, into marrying Suevan warlords in exchange for technology that would save Earth from another invasion.

The Suevans negotiated for willing women- that's def NOT what they got. But nobody realized it until after the sacred marriage ceremony and language implant. The women are stuck on Sueva indefinitely (Earth won't let them come back). So they're blending into Suevan society the best they can.

Each book features a new couple and their HEA but also has an overarching storyline. This is Book 3, so we are on our 3rd couple.

THIS BOOK:
Bex, our female lead, has always been a huge monster romance fan. She wants to erm... bang- no let's call it love 😉....love a monster 🤣. These alien warlords are so her thing- scales, tails, fangs and muscles for days.

But her warlord, Dergoz, (who everyone already calls a brute) overheard Bex call him a monster and he takes it as an insult. A very hurtful and shameful one.

Therefore, Dergoz wants no part of it- or her. Bex tries baking him sweets and putting herself in his face as much as possible. But he's not having it and instead storms away angry every time. All of her monster romance dreams are going up in flames and Bex is determined to fix it.

So she stows-away on Dergoz's ship, thinking she'll seduce him on his way to the capital city of Sueva. He can't walk away on a tiny ship and she's packed all the essential seduction accessories to succeed. Only, he's going on a dangerous mission into enemy territory- not the capital. And whew boy do things get interesting lol.

OPINIONS: I'm going to shoot it to you straight. I absolutely loved most of this book, the laughter it inspired was so healing. But there were a few parts I didn't care for. Hence the 4 stars.

Let's start on the cons and get em' out of the way. The parts I didn't care for were all due to them not being believable for ME. Such as being smack dab in the middle of intense danger/action but the couple stops to conversate or wants to get freaky. My anxiety is screaming the entire time and I can't enjoy it. I liked the way things turned out in the end. So I pretended it didn't happen and was good to go.

Okay, now the pros. Bex was hilarious and pure chaos. The Queen of surprises and idioms. I never knew what she was going to say or do next. That was totally refreshing and her character was so unique. She had me laughing until my sides hurt with her clown side but then she'd save the day in some way and I'd be proud of her. A bag of marbles lol.

Dergoz, aka the brute, was also unpredictable. Grumpy one second and then pure heart the next. I loved the culture clashes that came about from his lack of understanding Earth slang/idioms. Once he was given some praise and confidence, he tried super hard to please. Which was so cute and sighworthy. And hilarious. His first attempt at dirty talk went horribly, terribly wrong but it was sooooo funny. It may or may not have involved meat curtains 🤣😬.

I loved the camraderie between friends, old and new. It was really relatable how they bicker and burn each other with fake dissing. Yet always stand up for one another when truly needed.

I adored the vicious pet companion, Horacio. He was funny, sweet, and so dang cool. Plus, he was a total baddie and had six tails. 🐱

There were adventures, battles, shocking twists, true villains and maybe see-my-side bad guys.

Overall, this book was hella funny and entertaining. I'll def continue the series.

It never went to deep dark places and always had consent. Due to a ton of sailor language, spicy scenes, and hilarious shenanigans- I suggest for adults only. And I recommend for fans of monster romance.

Read through KU. Happy reading fellow romance enthusiasts!

Big fan of Bex

I thought Bex was a breath of fresh air in this series. She has all the self confidence and is competent, but not primarily as a fighter. She’s also a monster f*cker, which makes her more relatable to… uh… you know… some people.
I didn’t love Dergoz as much, but I liked the play of the romance between them.

In my opinion, this was the weakest of the series so far. Still fun and entertaining, but I found Bex to be really annoying. I know she used humor to cope with her struggles with relationships, but I found it to be way too exaggerated and honestly not funny. She also purposely used so much slang that dergoz was always confused and it got repetitive. Ultimately though, I still like all the plot elements going on in the background. There were some things revealed that make me excited for future books and the world was slightly more expanded.

"For you I would be monstrous. For you I would burn the world and everything in it, just for you to forgive me. Just for one look. One kiss."

4.5 stars!

Not only was Dergoz and Bex's story my favorite of the series so far, but it also got me out of my book slump! I loved how vulnerable yet possessive Dergoz was. Because of a miscommunication with Bex's obsession with monster-fucking, he was hesitant at first to acknowledge her as his mate. However, Bex wasn't going to just accept his rejection and took matters into her own hands, and I loved her tenacity so much. As is typical with January Bell, the humor and language mistranslations were top-notch between the human woman and alien males, while the sexual interludes between Dergoz and Bex were monstrously hot. There were a few surprise introductions to new allies towards the end, and I'm excited to see how the new storylines evolve🖤

Tropes: arranged marriage, grumpy/sunshine, reluctant hero, sassy heroine, forced proximity, only one bed, mating ceremony, language barrier, size difference, monster romance, dirty talking hero, tail play, STEAMY🔥

Book 3 in the "unknowingly wed to a bunch of aliens by my own government in desperate need of advanced alien technology to save humanity because only human women are fertile apparently" series was pretty good! Good story, funny, good character development, A+ alien cat.

I felt that Bex and Dergoz were much more balanced than Niki and Draz of book 1 and I was much more pleased with Bex as a character as a whole. I still feel like the whole human crew feels more like a college group of 20 something friends that went on a trip rather than a trained space military crew.

Anyway, Bex is a fellow monster romancer whose dreams come true being wedded to an alien - only he's not interested in her! It turns out the alien Dergoz is a long-term commitment kind of guy and Bex is a casual hookup kind of girl and they have to come clean about that and work it out. All of them working that stuff out with each other was great and handled well. Lots of great lines and scenes in that part of the plot.

There's a scene where Dergoz leaves Bex behind instead of treating her like the competent, able, skilled person she is and I was furious. Bex was also furious and Dergoz admittedly very regretful but I felt like she forgave him too easily and too quickly. I did appreciate how much she fought for herself though: “I might not be scaly, or finned, or eight feet tall, but I am good with a gun and I am great with tech. I am a military officer. I am trained. And I am capable. I will not let you sideline me just because you want to shove a kid inside me.” (p. 126). Kindle Edition.

I absolutely LOVE Horatio! I'm picturing a deadlier version of a vulpix. I also hadn't made the connection about each female character getting some kind of alien animal so I hope that continues as a trend. I was also happy to get an introduction to another alien species and a little peek into more about the Roth beyond just a vague violent, evil entity.

I'm looking forward to book 4 so I'll probably sound off on that one when it comes out in a month!

I read the first 2 and they were funny and wanted to enjoy this one too but it only exacerbates the problem with the second book. These are supposed to be highly trained women and they act like petulant teenagers half the time. They demand to be involved in things they know nothing about and get mad when people try to keep them safe from citations they are not able to handle. I don't think I will be reading anymore of these because the rest of the women seem to with be unremarkable or just straight annoying.

Me and Bex are the same. Would I have boarded his ship before a mission in lingerie? Probably not. Would I have done something almost equally as heinous? Yup.

When Bex's fantasy of marrying a handsome alien becomes a reality, she's over the moon – until she realizes that her new husband can't stand her. Despite her excitement about being wed to a giant green warrior, Dergoz has no interest in her. Fed up with being ignored, Bex is determined to make the most of her arranged marriage. Her plan? To stow away on his ship and charm him with her sunny disposition.

However, things don't go according to plan as Dergoz's mission takes him to a secret base, and he's furious with Bex for putting herself in danger. When an enemy boards their ship, Dergoz's gruff exterior begins to crack as he fights to keep them both safe. Meanwhile, Bex must decide if she's brave enough to show Dergoz the love he craves.

"For you I would be monstrous. For you I would burn the world and everything in it, just for you to forgive me. Just for one look. One kiss."

Hi, yes. Hello. I am in love with a green, tailed alien named Dergoz. If he has a million fans, I'm one of them. If he has one fan, it's me. If he has no fans, I'm dead. There isn't a single thing I wouldn't do for him. I swear January Bell wrote this book with me in mind and conjured up Dergoz with my ideal alien in mind. I'm sorry but that quote?!?! How could you not expect me to be absolutely GONE for this man?

Bex was an icon. A relatable AF icon. A fellow alien/monster romance reader who gets essentially sold off by her government to this alien race (who don't know they came without knowledge of what was happening to them) honestly hit the jackpot with this.

I'm literally obsessed with this series and especially with this book!

This would have been a four star read for me before the halfway point. I liked that this book addressed a bit of my critiques from the last book using the FMC. She is a monster lover (love this) and the MMC overhears her calling him a monster. He’s hurt as he’s called a monster when it comes to fighting and doesn’t want her to view him this way as well. Once this is cleared up it touches a bit on him feeling like she only like him because she likes monsters and that’s resolved as well.

My issue was halfway into this book you have the MMC treating the FMC like a damsel in distress and refusing to listen to reason. Part of what I like about this series is the FMC’s have specialized skills and are badass soldier girls. So him putting her in that box rubbed me all sorts of wrong. To add to this his apology wasn’t enough. It consisted mostly of him trying to apologize using his amazing alien dick. I need more grovel and than alien make up sex. Not an angry fuck and a weak apology, after the fact.

Quick(ish) Review

Third book in, and I’m still enjoying this series. There’s a lot of familiar SFR tropes, but the standout thing is the communication, especially during sex. I like that while Dwgoz is inexperienced, he and Bex talk it out. The group is starting to develop more and really show their personalities and while it’s giving me IPB vibes, I’m not mad at it. I also like that Ms. bell includes content warnings at the beginning of the books, very helpful. All in all, I’m happy to stay on this crazy train and see where it goes. If you like SFR, I think you’d enjoy this.

Why are we getting down and dirty while on another planet trying to complete a mission that you think is a trap?

Like there’s no urgency.
And if there’s no real urgency…him suddenly acting all nice and sweet to her doesn’t make a lick of sense.

The heroine was so annoying. She kept throwing herself at the hero. He was upset because he heard her call him a monster. She reads a lot of romance novels with monsters in them so she giving him a compliment. She finally explains that to him.

She also kept using slang from Earth knowing that the hero's translator couldn't translate it. It was so annoying having her explain over and over what she actually meant.

Honestly the best part of the book was the Arco (alien mermaid people) who convince half of the human women rescued from the alien jail to go to Arco instead of Sevua where the hero is from. He tells the women there is a shortage of women there and they will be honored guests. If they decide to choose a mate they will be treated like queens.

I've edited my review. The author just released a short story about the Arcon (alien mermaid people) called Alien Tides, in March 2023. So it looks like she is planning another series with the Arcon as the heroes.

At the end of the book hero and heroine are having a bachelor party and a bachelorette party because she said she wanted a real wedding like on Earth. Hero tells his friends he has been reading romance novels from earth and they involve orcs and kidnapping and saying Mine. The other aliens are very interested in the kidnapping idea.

We find out at the end of the book that two of the hero's friends kidnapped their mates and they are now missing.

Bex (h) is at her wits end with Dergoz (H), her Suevan husband, who seems to want nothing to do with her. She decides to stow away on his ship, unaware that he's actually being sent on a dangerous mission. Dergoz resists Bex, even though he's attracted to her, because he wants her to see him as more than a monster, he wants her to care for him. Their actions and relationship are initially hindered because there are problems with her translator and even when it's working there are still differences for the two to overcome. They face many challenges that they have to face together to in regard to their mission, other aliens, and even other humans even as their sexual attraction grows. Dergoz learns how competent Bex is in her abilities and that she's quite capable of pulling her own alongside him. Great to see the returning characters, as well as new ones. This was an amazing third book in the series, and I am so looking forward to more of the Suevans and their mates, as well perhaps stories for Nydo/Roth and Reif/Arco. The books need to be read in series order to understand the overarching story.

Finished my ARC of the third installment of Accidental Alien Brides and somehow it’s the best one yet!! Bex is determined to get her alien husband, nicknamed the Brute for his violence in battle, to pay *attention* to her, even if it means stowing away on his ship when he’s sent on a mission. Little does Bex know how dangerous a mission it is. Bex is absolutely hilarious and I legit cackled out loud more than once. Her alien husband has such golden retriever energy and he wants nothing more to prove his devotion to his wife. I don’t know how these keep getting better and better, but I am here for it! on kindle unlimited so you have plenty of time to binge read the first two and download this one!

Great sci fi romance

The worldbuilding is great, the story is fun, and Horatio rocks! Although there is graphic sex, it doesn't overwhelm the story. Nydo, Leigh, and Reif are great additions to the characters.

Book 3 in the Accidental Alien Brides series

This book is about Bex and Dergoz (aka Brute). And in this installment, we get off the Suevan world with our main characters and we finally see how Nydo and Leigh meet (yay!!) So, if you want to read Alien On Fire I do suggest reading the first three books in this series before starting there. Also, on this away-mission we also meet another alien species- Arcos, who are a marine alien. Bex and Dergoz encounter an Arco male, Reif, who ends up helping them on their mission. It looks like there is a novella to kick off this series called Alien Tides and I'm SOOOO looking forward to reading that one. It sounds really good! I'm SUPER interested in reading about the Arcos and their women. Yes, I already purchased it. :)

What I liked about this book was that it was cute and sweet, of course, as all of Ms. Bell's alien romances are. I also loved how Bex adopted her own alien pet, just like the previous two women did in their books. And I think I like Horatio the best! He's both cute and bad@$$. However, what bothered me was that Bex was waaaay OTT. She was a very extraverted person, and that's really cool! Many people will love Bex! She just wasn't for me. The other thing that started to get annoying (and this is probably because I read the first three books in this series back-to-back) was how the human women keep using idioms (sayings that only make sense to other humans). The alien dudes just don't get it- of course! But, this book just felt (so far) like it had the highest number of idioms and it just really got on my nerves. Lastly, because I certainly don't want to dump on this book. I love January Bell's writing, I'm a HUGE fan, and I've almost finished reading all of her published books! Anyway, my last critique was that this was pretty heavy with the action/adventure/things happening that, at least it felt to me, the romance was secondary to the plot. And I just didn't love that. I read romance because I want the focus to be on the characters and the romance between them.

Anway, it's obvious I need a break from this series before picking it back up/finishing it later. And I need something very different so I don't go into a reading slump so off to dramione fanfiction I go!

In "Wed to the Alien Brute" by January Bell, readers are in for a wild and entertaining ride through the cosmos, blending humor, romance, and the unexpected in a delightful way.

The story revolves around Rebecca, affectionately known as Bex, who finds herself in a truly unique predicament—unexpectedly married to an alien. What sets Bex apart is her unabashed enthusiasm for this unusual turn of events. As a fan of monster romance books, she approaches her newfound intergalactic union with a sense of adventure that's as endearing as it is humorous.

The titular "Alien Brute" is a character who quickly grows on readers. His initial hesitance and reserved nature create an interesting dynamic with Bex's vivacious personality. Their interactions are a delightful blend of humor and heart, as Bex's determination to take her alien husband for a ride leads to entertaining moments and unexpected discoveries.

What makes "Wed to the Alien Brute" stand out is its ability to infuse humor into the sci-fi romance genre. Bex's wit and her knack for finding humor in even the strangest situations add a refreshing layer to the narrative. This book doesn't take itself too seriously, which makes it an enjoyable and lighthearted read.

January Bell's storytelling shines through in the character development. Bex's enthusiasm is infectious, and readers will find themselves rooting for her as she navigates the complexities of her interstellar marriage. The gradual transformation of the "Alien Brute" from hesitance to genuine affection is heartwarming and provides a satisfying emotional arc.

"Wed to the Alien Brute" is a delightful addition to the world of unconventional romance novels. It's a tale of unexpected love, humor, and the joys of embracing the unknown. If you're looking for a book that will make you laugh, tug at your heartstrings, and transport you to a world where love knows no boundaries, this is a must-read.

Prepare for a cosmic adventure filled with laughter and heart as Bex takes you on a journey through the stars, proving that even the most unexpected unions can lead to the most heartwarming connections. January Bell's "Wed to the Alien Brute" is a charming and amusing addition to the realm of intergalactic romance.

3.5⭐️

Going into this I was worried I wouldn’t like it because I wasn’t crazy about the fmc and mmc from previous books, and even as I started this book I wasn’t too sure, but I do like where we ended up.

I’m happy for Dergoz and Bex, they are very cute now that they’re working out their issues (he’s not ignoring her and pretending he doesn’t want her and she sees him as more than a “monster boy toy”).

And the spice is next level. Like every book it kicks up a notch, but this was something else 🌶️ 🌶️🌶️

I am still finding typos and errors. I wish January had a better editor! But I’m still very much enjoying this series and will keep reading.

As an aside, I did like the almost meta nature of Bex being so into alien/monster romance. But it just became too much for me when she seemed to only want him for that. Once she worked through her shit and started being vulnerable with him though, I found it very cute.

Also, Dergoz does tie her up to prevent her from helping him (not in a sexy way), and that was absolutely not okay. I don’t like that. However, he’s afraid of losing this precious person he’s found and instantly regretted doing it and saw it as his own my option. I like that Bex stayed mad about it and made him understand why it wasn’t okay, and how he’s going about learning to love her and letting her love him in a healthy way. Still absolutely not okay as an action, but this is an alien romance so I’m gonna let it slide.

Further:

-I loved the new iteration of the fmc’s alien pet — this one being a bit wild, big cat with poisonous (and A LOT OF VERY SHARP) teeth that Bex sees as a kitten and names Horatio. Also every time he “meowed” it was written “yeaaaaah” and it reminded me of meowth from pokemon, which I found hilarious.

-This book also set me up to be much more interested in and excited for Michelle and Alvez’s story. I am also SUPER intrigued by Nydo the lost Roth King and his mate Leigh.

-January used a great and familiar device to bring more women into the picture and that really sets the ground for future books, so I’m also excited about that.

-Additionally, it made me so happy to see pregnant Gen and how their community is supporting her. I cannot wait to see her give birth to the first hybrid human-suevan baby and where the story goes from there.

Good

Bex and Dergoz
This is book three in the series, and although it is a standalone romance, it does build upon the stories that went before, so I recommend reading in order!
It also ends on a book hook, but not a big cliffhanger type one.

One of the humans sold to the Suevan warlords for their help in defending Earth, Bex has alway been a fan of monster romance. For her, the idea of wedding an alien is a dream come true, until her husband refuses to have anything to do with her.
Not that Bex allows that to stop her, stowing away on her husband’s ship seemed like a great plan until she realizes his mission is a spy one, and that it is most definitely dangerous!

I’ve been waiting for Bex’s story, and it was definitely worth it! We finally get to discover just why Dergoz refuses to accept Beth, and we get to meet Bex in all her monster loving glory!
We also get to meet some new aliens, learn a few things about ones we’ve already met, and get to see a new alien space pet!
This is a 5/5 on the humour scale, with laugh out loud moments, especially when it comes to misunderstandings regarding American sayings (I mean, taken literally most sayings are confusing!).

Still, it’s an action packed story, with plenty of danger and a couple of sexy scenes to round it out, which put this about 4/5 on the spicy scale. It’s also an enjoyable and humourous story, with a happy ending, and sci-fi romance fans will enjoy it immensely.

I'm so thankful to have been pointed toward this series. It's helped get me out of a very deep slump. However, on book 3 I DNFed @ page 172.

At first glance, this should have been a slam dunk for me. It's Bex, the resident monster flocker. But the characterization was horrible and I hated each of them at, at least, one point in the book.

We're meant to blame Dergoz for the rift between himself and Bex because he "misunderstood" something he overheard, then never bothered to ask her about it. Nope. There WAS no misunderstanding. Bex had no interest in a marriage but had a huge interest in the novelty of an alien co@k...just as Dergoz surmised. And Bex never bothered to try to talk to him and, instead, just tried increasingly aggressive seductive tactics to get into his pants. It's not an attractive behavior in a man and it's not attractive in a woman either.

Full disclosure, I'm demisexual and couldn't take it any longer where I stopped reading. Dergoz just treated her like garbage, tied her up and left her in enemy territory and she was LIVID. And yet, sexy times happened AS she told him how angry she was with him. The point where I finally noped out was when he used orgasm denial to force her to forgive him. WTAF?! Not only is that a dirty thing to do, but also way out of character for him. At that point, I was rooting for her to fall for the fish alien.
