(view spoiler)[The Mask and what it did to the Thin Kid - supposedly - was too much Michael Myers for me. Read a a bit of a copy of the original. Also i am not convinced it really "transformed" the Thin Kid but rather he had it in him after the constant abuse. Also why did Cleo kill herself - that didn't make sense at all. After a while i got really annoyed with the MC and her justifications for everything. The ending was, compared to the rest of the book, unnecessary gruesome (which i usually like but in this instance it felt forced, just for the sake of bringing in some gruesome, bloody scenes). The rest of the book read more tragic comedy at times. Not the vibes I would have liked in a haunted house book. The narration was great and the atmosphere in parts really good. ...more

If you ever read or saw a movie on the topic, you could have guessed the ending easily which I did. so nothing groundbreaking. Nevertheless the book had me listening all day yesterday and this morning. Furthermore, the narration was really good. Totally recommend on audio!...more

Raven: Blood Eye is the beginning of a trilogy about a boy named Raven found when he was only a small boy and he has no memory of where he came from. This is a mystery on its own. I really liked the coming of age story of Raven although it was a bit quicker at times as i was expecting. Having read the prequel trilogy, i was eager to get back to Sigurd. I loved him in the Rise of Sigurd books - what a great man and warrior but it was also apparent that Raven was written first - in small little details. I am not so connected to Raven as I want it to be but i am hoping that changes in book 2. So far I am loving the world, politics. Characters are alright here too. I know Mr Kristian can do it better but i am cutting some slack cause this was the first trilogy, if i am not mistaken and so room for improvment. Usually i am way more emotionally connected to the characters of his books - so i have hope for that. All in all nice start to the trilogy. ...more

And to think i dnf'd the Blade Itself years ago, the whole series and Joe became my favorite of all time. The characters were outstanding and the plot brilliantly done. I am very sad my therapy sessions with my favorite characters are over and i have to go back to the real world.
this sums up this magical book for me: "People love the idea of freedom but, in my experience, there is only so much they can be trusted with."
Steven Pacey did an amazing job - as usual - with all the character voices and bringing the world to life as no other could have done better.
i just loved every single page and will probably get back to them in the future.
What to do with myself now?? By the Dead, this was fantastic!...more

So many laugh out loud moments. Also great bloody battles, political plotting and scheming as well as still giving the characters depth was incredible. Joe Abercrombie is such a fantastic writer and in combination with Stephen Pacey the perfect duo to bring the characters and world to life.
it all will come to a final conclusion in the next book and i cannot handle the fact that its the last book in the First Law World. I will desperately miss them all.
Also between us readers, its also a perfect therapy reading .. i feel like i am in therapy with all these characters and its so healing. Everyone should forgive themselves, ... After all ... no one else will."...more

The turn to theFantastic read! i love that we get the children of the First Law trilogy plus old friends i hold very dear to my heart. Times changed. The turn to the industrial revolution with all its good and bad was flawlessly done and the depiction of the hardships of the laborers gruesome but true as it was probably in our past. All the political and economical intrigue - fantastic as well as the battle scenes - masterfully done! Cannot say much else but that i bloody loved this book. By the dead, JA can write characters. There was non that i didn't felt any kind of connection. Never a dull moment. And the humor - brilliant!
Again, the Stephen Pacey as narrator was beyond amazing....more
