R.G. Angel is one of my favorite authors and instant read for me so once this new book was announced and I read the blurb/tropes I knew this was going to be amazing.
I loved Javier, he was in it for the vengeance that has been consuming him for 15 years. He has worked towards his plan and honestly this is all he has lived for. As the story progresses, we see his past unravel little by little and the truths and reveals are not at all what we expected.
I loved the bodyguard x mafia princess trope, he planted himself in her life and he thought he was able to be in control and take advantage of the situation, but he never saw Ophelia causing his whole revenge to unravel and end up feeling so empty.
The sheltered life Ophelia is forced to live is not something she ever wanted for herself. Ophelia is an all-around kind and sweet person who really has no care for the rich things in life. I liked how innocent she was in her own way, but I loved seeing her fire when things were revealed, and the truths Javier was trying so hard to not come to light is finally out in the open. The way she put him in his place and stood her ground for so long (even schemed a tiny bit) was what I really liked about her.
The grovel was great and despite loving Javier, I liked seeing him having to work for it and suffer for his actions.
''I will shield her from the chaos I’ve created. I will be her anchor, her safe harbor. ''
We see their chemistry and banter shine in this book. You see them slowly fall for each other and find peace within each other’s presence. There is so much angst between them and in the moments where they are showing their emotions even if it is ever so slightly, you know they match each other so well.
I will say that he never compares his dead wife to Ophelia, and I never felt like she was second place or a consolation prize for him. You see him (and the people closes to him) realize he loves Ophelia like a man rather than a boy.
We also get to meet three men who I hope to have their own stories one day! Javier's two best friends (Tiago and Derek) and one mysterious dark mafia boss who stole every scene he was in aka The Reaper.
There were a few unanswered questions for me, but it didn't bother me as much as I thought it would when the story ended though if ever get to know the answers (though I hope I get to one day). ...more

This is another book in the Petrov Family novella series, each one written by a different author.
I liked a lot of things in this book, and I think it would have worked so well if it was a full-length novel rather than condensed into a novella. There were a lot of plot points that could have been more focused on to make a bigger impact. I know it's a novella so showing us is going to take up too much room for the main goal of the story.
Mikhail and Leah are from two different mafia worlds and families. While Mikhail and her family are friendly and he is best friends with her older brother, things are still not 100% bulletproof between them, as her father would never accept their relationship.
The pressures of the family get to Mikhail, and he makes a horrible choice and lets her go and what happens next bothered me. It was not what I wanted for my MMC's to do during stories like this, so I was not a fan.
Leah and him, however, are once again back in the same atmosphere and this time things are going to end up differently.
He needed to man up and just take what he wanted, especially since his brothers and dad did what they wanted to do so why was he the exception?
I'm glad she did not wait around for him during their separation.
I feel like he would have let her go forever if she had not been persistent about their love and that makes me sad.
Truly think this book could have been a full book and it would have worked better, it did it a disservice for it being just a novella with limited room.

Bennett and Ella are both struggling individually with their own past and the things that still haunt them to this day, no matter how many years have passed.
Ella gets a job as Bennett's assistant and quickly there is a new twist that neither saw coming, Bennett needs to get married to secure the CEO position and Ella is the only one he has his eyes on being his wife.
While she needs to agree to do this because of the promises of money he makes her and a better life, she does not need all that for herself but for her younger sister who she needs to take care of and secure a better life for.
While Bennett sole reason for being CEO is his determination to get back what his family owns. Bennett might seem like a cruel boss and laser focused on his own plans; we also get to see his vulnerability. His kindness towards his nephews and niece. The kids he has been taking care of for a long time and gave everything so they would be happy.
Despite Bennett and Ella's lives being totally different and the way they were brought up, they share a lot of common interests and goals.
There are a few elements of mystery within this story. We see a different side of Bennett and the lengths he will go to protect those he loves.
I really enjoyed their chemistry and how much they complimented each other. It was somewhat of a slow burn, but it was worth it once they got together.
I still need answers for one side plot but hopefully we will have more about that in the future books within this series. ...more

We finally get the conclusion to this epic duet! I loved this one more than the first book and I already loved that one too.
Nero would do anything, and I mean ANYTHING for Blake. It's not just something you see him tell her or others but things you see him do no matter how heartbreaking or painful it is.
The mighty god has fallen in this one, and there seems to be some blissful hope that he can make things better for himself but honestly, I was not aware on how it would be achieved so thank fuck for Blake and her brilliant mind at the end.
The main mission they ended up on seemed so nerve wracking and I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see what would happen at every corner. The enemies were smart but our MC's and co were smarter.
There is a bunch of angst in this book, the pain of the reveals in book 1 is causing Blake doubts and the need to get away but as time progresses to sees how much she does not want to be away from Nero, no matter how much his world scares her....more

Dario becomes obsessed with Eden who he sees as the elusive dancer in his new ballet studio. He desperately wants to find her and find out more about her and despite his resources he stops himself and wants it to happen naturally.
Eden comes from a different world than Dario and she believes he would never go for her if he knew the truths about her life and past. She also must deal with her mother who has been nothing but an absolute nightmare and disappointment since she was a child. She brings dangers to her doorstep repeatedly.
These two have a dance going on between them, she brings calmness to his chaotic life.
I will admit I expected Dario to be a bit more like the other guys in this series but honestly there were moments where I was laughing out loud by his antics. The dog? the way he goes on and on about it. It was truly unexpected but extremely welcome.
There is a lot more romance in this book than plot and it made more sense in this scenario to focus more on the romance....more

Stella ends up being betrayed and used after she sees a recording of herself having sex with the man who she had fallen in love with. Noah is seeking revenge after what Stella's father has done to his family and sadly Stella is his collateral damage to achieve that.
Things are never easy though, he instantly feels regret, remorse and disgust with himself and his plan, but the damage is done.
This book really focused on the grovel, Noah spends a good amount of this entire book either groveling to Stella or suffering alone. I love how he had nobody in his corner after his actions and even his best friend was appalled by his scheme.
There is a lot of OW drama, but we are told from the beginning from his POV what it all means so it's a one sided OW drama. His only thought and care is towards Stella. Even though he is a weak ass sometimes and he needs to get his shit together, he stays loyal despite what happened between them.
The OW drama is present throughout most of the book but nothing ever happens and if you think something does from Stella’s POV then you will read his and find out the truth and feel relieved.
There is a kiss during one scene where Stella sees it (they are not together) but in his POV you find out that the OW just does that out of nowhere cause she’s desperate to make the world believe they are together, and he cannot stop her or cause a scene because of her bitterness.
There are also small few days overlap with the OW when he seeks out Stella and starts his revenge plan but let’s be honest, he felt nothing for Stella as she was a target in the beginning. He admits he was with nobody else after that, and he stopped seeing the OW a few days after he met Stella.
Let’s be real, you will hate him in some instances in this book.
It's partially a rage read tbh, a lot of the things that happen make you want to just throw your kindle/book out the window.
Stella loses her shine and it's obvious to everyone around her. Noah's guilt eats at him and it's exactly what he deserves after what he put her through.
How everything gets resolved is not quick or brushed aside. There is no BBS in this book in my eyes. Stella has no trust in anyone, and it hinders her day-to-day life.
Stella obviously loved him before it all went down, and you could feel her pain after the betrayal, but it was Noah's suffering that made this book just a little bit sweeter. His utter disgust with himself is exactly how he should have felt and I'm glad we did not get him feeling remorse months later, but it was RIGHT AWAY.
A lot of other stuff happens in this book and it all just causes issues and drama.
You will get an extended epilogue after the book ends as it kind of ends abruptly but that extended scene gives you a good glimpse into their future.
There are a few side characters who I am hoping will get their own stories told but not sure it will happen! ...more

Well, that was a plot twist I did NOT see coming. Liam has been a mystery since he was introduced in the first book, we just did not know what he was all about.
All we knew he was responsible, headstrong, had a British accent and did not hook up with students.
To find out the truth about his life and who he truly was, was not expected at all!
Nessa was automatically one of my favorites. I honestly love all the MCs throughout the series. She has dealt with so much and I loved seeing Liam in her corner.
She has a family who are the worst, and we get to see how they treat her firsthand. It's horrifying how neglectful they are of her and because of this she acts out as a teenager and causes more issues for herself. Their utter lack of respect for her is disgusting and they neglected even her basic needs.
When Nessa and Liam first meet and eventually get together, they agree it's all fun and friends with benefits situation and nothing could ever become serious. Though they each quietly know it's more but keep it to themselves.
Liam realizing what he feels for Nessa is a lot more than he ever imagined and we also know he broke his rule to be with another student for the first time, but he does not seem to care at all. He is drawn to her and cannot stop thinking about her. She consumes his mind and when they finally start their ''relationship'' he is obsessed.
When the truth comes out about him though, drama beyond what we believed is added and she finally understands why he said there could never be a future. She is selfless in the grand scheme of things, and he is determined to make it work. No matter what obstacles come between them.
They went through a lot of pain and distance before getting their HEA but it's amazing how much he is willing to do to get her back.
I also loved the way their future was presented to us!
Though I am sad to say goodbye to this series and world, I truly enjoyed it! ...more

The conclusion to this duet finally gives us all the answers you might have when reading the first book.
Silas was still the great MMC that he was in the first book, and he kept that momentum going throughout this one. He truly loves Ophelia and wanted to do everything for her and make sure she never knew pain but sadly the people around them had other plans.
Ophelia, however, makes dumb decisions again in this book and I just wanted to scream at her to stop and think for a minute. To finally see the light concerning Silas's family and their ulterior motive.
Disturbing secrets are revealed. The truth is never pretty, and this is shown over and over in this duet. Silas was right when he said that some things are best left unknown.
There was a bit of an anticlimactic feel concerning two villains and what happens with them, but I think it showed that despite them being evil, there was one other person that was worse, and their demise needed to be the main center of the ending.

I can always depend on Natasha Knight to give me the angst I crave.
This story revolves around Ophelia and Silas who are basically star-crossed lovers with a twist of wrong time, miscommunication, third party interventions and past mistakes.
I'll say this before we start, the blurb gives you a hint that there might be a love triangle and I was hesitating when I signed up to read this, but I am glad it's nothing like that. It's a triangle but there is no love for both men but just one.
Ophelia is stuck between a rock and a hard place; her life has fallen apart and the people who are ''helping'' her are nothing but snakes and only after their own end goal. Sadly, Ophelia is a pawn in their game, and she is too blinded by years of being around them and memories to realize the truth. Her fathers’ crimes are too straight forward for it to be true in my eyes but what secrets are there? We find a few in this book and they are mind-blowing.
She frustrated me with her lack of back bone, so what you lose her comfort if you walk away? Just do it. It's better to have nothing than to be their pet and live your life by their rules and needs.
*There is grey area cheating as the few instances our MC's get together Ophelia is technically with the half-brother but doesn’t feel bad for him. He doesn't deserve her loyalty as it's hinted multiple times he has cheated and still does it. There is no love there and it's all just a habit for them to be together at this point.
Silas, this guy has had a rough life. He never catches a break and his whole life he was stuck being looked down upon, never wanted. His mother was a brave woman for making sure he got a decent life (well education). He was able to leave that hell hole he called a home and make something of himself and found success to overpower the men who tries to break him.
I don't trust anyone besides Silas in this book. Ophelia is too unstable for me to keep her on the list even though she is as clueless as the I am going into book 2.
Silas will do everything to save her, but she needs to trust him to let it happen and not believe everything someone tells her when she can see deception in front of her.
That cliffhanger was unexpected and thankfully book 2 is only a few weeks away! We won't have to wait long for the conclusion....more

We met Nikolai in the previous book, but his FMC was a complete mystery. We got the gist of what life has been like for Nikolai, he is a widower after his wife is killed and he is also a father to his seven-year-old daughter.
His family (brother and sister) have all been victims of their father's evil mind growing up and now they are living in the States away from him to be free, but the ghosts and trauma still haunt each of them differently.
The FMC Mila (Melissa) is tasked to get something from Nikolai after being blackmailed and forced to accept.
Infiltrating his world and life needed a bit of planning and Mila is the perfect person to get this show on the road. She is fearless and badass. She has attributes you admire and fear. She will do anything for the ones she loves. She is sadly on a timer to get what she has been tasked to do and never imagined she would be falling for the big grumpy single father and his little girl which obviously puts a huge complication on her original plan.
We get to know Nikolai a little bit more and dive into his life before losing his wife and after. I was a bit afraid it would be a bit of an awkward mindset with him since he loved his wife and lost her tragically 5 years ago, but he was respectful towards his wife’s memories, but he also knew that he wanted Mila and there was no going back for him. I was also glad to see that Mila was not replacing his dead wife nor was she being compared to. What he ends up feeling for Mila was entirely new and its own thing.
Their chemistry was great, and their hate-love moments were gold. There were a few reveals in this book that were left on a cliffhanger, and I am sure we will be getting conclusions to them in the rest of the series.
We also had some great funny moments with Alexei and his flamingo. I really want to read his book with Lara. There is a bit of mystery about Lara and what she is dealing with.
Mikhail and Enzo are both mysteries I want to read about and thankfully we will get their books in the future!...more

Neva's new series with the next generation is starting off right!
We meet Rafael in the 9th book of the Perfectly Imperfect series, he was a mysterious scarred anti-hero. In this book we get his backstory and how he came to be who he is now.
Vasilisa is the eldest daughter of Roman and Nina who were the MC's of Neva's first book ''Painted Scars''. I would suggest reading a short extra scene that is available on Neva's website. It'll give you a little preview of Roman/Nina's life with their kids and how Vasilisa is just giving Roman a heart attack whenever she can with her ''antics''.
I don't want to spoil anything so this will be vague.
Rafael is OTT, he is obsessed to be point of no return. He immediately wants her and will do anything to keep her around. The lengths he goes is quite funny and petty, but he meant no harm from them.
Vasilisa and Rafael are connected in an unexpected way. It's pretty amazing and insane how they were meant to be.
I really enjoyed their banter and chemistry.
We get a few glimpses of the future books in this series, but it will not be out until 2025! ...more

It's really hard to review this book without spoiling anything that can give the whole plot away.
This is a heavy book to get through. Jax is such a complex character who is struggling after the events from Detained where he lost his best friend and ''brother''. That loss is still felt everyday by Jax, and the impact will never truly go away for him. When you read his POV and see how much Kai meant to him, you understand his feelings about being lost.
At the end of Detained we see Jax reveal that he slept with his brother’s wife and that in itself was an insane declaration but who would have thought the story behind it all was even crazier?
Sofia is set to marry Jax's brother, but things do not go as planned and things are forever changed that day. She meets Jax and they spend the night together both knowing it cannot be anything more. All that I will say is that do not feel bad for the brother.
Things are never as they seem and that night haunts both of them for different reasons. One lucky (or unlucky) chance brings them back together, but the past is never far behind for either of them.
There is one particular character (not the obvious villain) I had so much hatred for. Their behavior and constant belittling or resentment was unjustified, and I felt NO sympathy for them when it all was revealed.
The banter between the new characters (Nikolai, Alexei, Lara, Mikhail) was a lot of fun and I cannot wait for their books within this series.
The love and chemistry between our MC's were off the charts. You just know they were meant to be together. I loved their moments and even when things were not sunny and rainbows, they made sense. There was a balance they each brought to the other.
Jax's struggles in this book are a hard pill to swallow and I advise everyone to take the SW/TW's seriously and check our Luna's note in the beginning of the book.
Just remember that not all that happens in this book is what it seems and Jax deserves the benefit of the doubt because without Luna's comment about a particular moment, I would have thrown this book (well my kindle) out the window....more

Honestly all you need to know is that Lev is 6ft6 and obsessed with his little thief Ivy.
Ivy has had a rough upbringing and was taken advantage of by people who were supposed to care for and love her but in turn treated her horribly and she is left with nobody in her life. Alone, scared, and hungry she steals to get by every day but it's who she steals from that gets her life on a different track she never imagined.
Lev was obsessed from the moment he saw her and despite his threats and attitude you could tell he never meant any of it and just wanted to protect her.
There is the big side plot that has been present in each of the Petrov Family books so far, obviously we will not be getting a conclusion to that until the last book of the series which will be from Luna Mason!
Can't wait for the rest of the books in this world and finally getting revenge these guys are all looking for.

Do I wish I had waited to read this before both books were released so I did not have to sit in silence after that last 10% of the book and the way it ended? Definitely yes.
You must read ''When She Loves'' to fully understand Nero's backstory in this duet. We are told in short number of ways what happened and why he is in exile and pretending for the rest of his life that he is never allowed to be Nero but Rowan now BUT you should read that book to get the full picture of his previous life and what he had to give up and how much it all meant to him.
Rowan (I'll refer to him as his fake name because Nero was dormant), settled in a small town with the one guy he was left with from his former life Sandro (now Sam). These two have no choice but to leave it all behind and start new.
Rowan's way of dealing with things is pretty much the douche way, sleep with half the town when he arrives to fill the void, he feels from never being able to be Nero again.
Blake was born and raised in the town Rowan ends up in and these two do not have the best start, nor does he make the best first impression in her eyes (and after). She is coming off a bad bad breakup after her ex-cheats on her and she is forced to still work for him and live in the same town she resents.
Is this enemies to lovers? No. It's more like ''I don't like you and I think bad things of you because of how you are presenting yourself'' type of relationship from her part.
We also get fake relationship in this one but how long until it ends up being real? Lol While Rowan is slowly becoming obsessed with her and goes to extreme lengths to get her to fall for her (fall in bed with him more like it) until things progress in ways neither saw it coming.
This first book in the duet gives us a better understanding of her background and history which oddly will connect it all to Rowan's past life in a fucked-up way.
It's all ''fun'' and silly in terms of a dark romance book until you get towards the end, and that is when you know shit is about to go down and the peace these two characters felt will seize to exist.
We see hints of Nero come out to play in this one, but I cannot wait for Rowan to take a backseat and Nero to be able to be himself again with no reservations.
I expected something to happen to make me sad, but the choice Gabrielle made was not just sad but heart wrenching.
I cannot wait for the final book, and I seriously am trying my hardest to be patient but thankfully I'll get the ARC so my waiting period is not THAT long!...more

Even though this can be read as a standalone I highly advise everyone to read the first book in this series just so you can get a bigger picture of the side characters and even our MC's in this book and their interactions.
Cole and Eva have a tragic past that is filled with so much pain and misunderstandings. Both are still reeling with everything they experienced together and apart. We get to see what transpired between them to cause such a huge rift and its heart wrenching.
They both have a lot of unfinished business between each other. Eva figures out that things just are not what she believed, and Cole is heartbroken by events he was manipulated to believe.
There is just so much they have to overcome to eventually be able to move past the past and find peace for their future and their road was tough, but it was necessary.
A moment happened that was vague to the reader on purpose, but I just knew what had occurred and the SHOCK when it was revealed to Eva.
Cole was devastated when the truths were revealed, and I swear my heart broke for him. The scene was so intense.
Eva was amazing. Her internal battle was something we got to experience firsthand, and I swear there were a few moments where I just needed to take a small break from reading.
Cole's groveling lasted for much longer than I thought and even though his obliviousness was there, and he could have never known what occurred, his actions to prove himself to Eva were so desperately necessary.
Everything I have said is really vague since I do not want to spoil it too much. I really enjoyed it and the only reason this book has 4 stars and not 5 is because of some of the decisions Cole made and the ex-drama I hated.
Two things to mention: - Max (a new character we met) definitely was perfect and he needs his own book! As well as his friends. - Nessa and Liam, we got crumbs, but it was not enough. Really excited for their story!...more

Poppy and Ethan's story is complex and riddled with history, not only between them, but between their families.
We find out really quickly what went down in the past and why things changed so much for Poppy and her family. Everything crumbled and they were left to pick up the pieces while navigating life with the aftermath.
Ethan and Poppy spent years prior to meeting again enamored with each other but sadly never claiming it and they ended up being rivals instead.
I really liked Ethan; he was different than what I expected when I read the blurb. I expected a lot more anger from him and enemy vibes but in reality he was the sweetest and genuinely cared for Poppy and her family. His efforts to help and be there were endearing.
Poppy was strong-willed and took on a lot, all I wanted was for her and her mom/brothers to get a break and get more stability in their life.
The side characters also made this book so much more fun and made me even more excited for the rest of this series! I love the different tropes we will be getting with each couple! ...more

Tori is unlike most of Michelle's FMC's, she is truly innocent and sheltered. It is however her innocence that attracts Angelo to her, the same Angelo who everyone refers to as the devil and is one of the leaders of Cosa Nostra. He is feared and nobody even wants to be around him longer than needed.
He plots and schemes to get her just for himself. Her initial fear of him is understood as their first meeting was plagued by violence. It’s a bit of a learning curve for both of them.
Her stepbrother also had a hand in her ending up with Angelo but not in the way he had hoped. His character was like a cockroach that just would not die. He truly was vile.
I will say that Angelo's trust in her was not expected as I had seen a different outcome concerning a particular scene/plot twist. That little reveal was shocking! I really did not see it coming, it made me sad for him.
Despite what the world thinks of Angelo aka the devil/evil, he showed her that he would never be that to her. He showed her protection and love.
We also get a glimpse into the potential MMC's of this new series, but nothing is yet revealed or announced!

In this next Petrov novella, we meet one of the sons and his obsession.
If you read his father's novella and thought he was unhinged then wait till you meet Viktor. He takes the unhinged to a whole new level and meaning.
Amaia is dealing with her own problems as her half-brother and father are all part of the mafia world, but she has been sheltered from it until she meets Viktor, and by meets I mean gets stalked.
As this is a novella and less than 150 pages we do not really get a good chance to see these two emotionally connected throughout their story. However, despite this we can clearly see how obsessed Viktor becomes towards her and what he will do to protect her and make her his.

This book is heavy so please read the TW’s carefully.
So much happens in this book and despite the fact that it is about a different couple than the first book, it is an interconnected story and there is a plot continuation in this, so if you have not read the first one, please do so as so much will make more sense to you.
Sarge and Joslyn had the most interesting connection, they were both broken and believed to be the ultimate sinners. I enjoyed their relationship progression throughout their story. We got to see a lot of their moments that were hinted at in the first book or left to our imagination.
We finally also got the full story between Joslyn and her identical twin sister Jordyn. Their history is heartbreaking. You have to hate her sister but by the end you might see some sort of light despite her actions.
Joslyn has been through so much and to see it happen firsthand was just sad. I felt a lot of pain for the things she could not control, especially from the two people who were supposed to love her and honestly there is a scene from the last thing her father said that sparked my interest a lot and I think this will come into play later on in the series because it was worded in a way that made me think Joslyn misinterpreted everything.
Sarge's past was revealed, and we got to see his ''sin''. Honestly, it was expected considering his military past, but I think he really was shoved into a box and blamed for something out of his control. We get his full name and also get to have him remove the hood.
The chemistry and love between Sarge/Joslyn was truly amazing. The spice was *chefs kiss*.
In terms of the sub-plot that is interconnected we get a bit more information and progression but it's all still a massive mystery! One particular person is being shady as fuck and it was so odd to see this since in book 1 it was just a very different version of the character.
The guys all having doubts concerning things is also going to come into play in the next books!
Sadly, I have to be vague since this is an ARC review. I wish I could write so much more about what happens, but you’ll have to read it to understand everything.
