He did the 'Mel Fell' book. He knows how to use the book itself in new ways. I also learned something new. There is a real type of catfish in the Congo river that swims upside down it's whole life. Really? Yes really.
We meet ursula who loves the seaweed above her and the blue sky below her. She can look down and grab a bug and come back to her beautiful home. Then, she meets a fish who tells her she is upside down which freaks her out. (this is the fun part where the reader gets to turn the book upside down.)
We meet some characters like a bat and fish and this is all about your perspective in life. Having a different perspective is okay. It does make things more interesting.
I think kids will love this experience. They will love have to turn the book and keep reading. It's simply fun. Great story and experience. ...more

Shin and Shige are doing well in their new apartment. Work is going well. There is a little bit of jealousy. Their characters have some kissing scenes and it creates some good jealousy.
The spicy aspects of the story are awesome. This is a good balance of story and bedroom. The are plenty of sharks circling the couple though. A new villain was introduced in the president of the TV studio. It doesn't look good.
The story ends with the two ending up on the same set. They are going to film together. I love that! I was wanting them to end up together. If you ask me, they should film a danmei or Yaoi together. That would be so meta. It would complicate things too much. Too many people know about them and I'm waiting for it to leak. Something has to give soon. I CAN'T WAIT FOR MORE! I've caught up to what has been published, so I have to wait for the translations with everyone else....more

I know it's very important to the story and as a first time reader, we really start to understand what is going on and the complexity of the story going on. It's wonderful. This is my favorite story of all time, so I suppose I could give all these volume 5 stars, but to me this is more set-up.
I love the part with the headband last volume. This volume, Wei Wuxian finds out what that means. That was great. I love that here, we see Wei WuXian tell Jin Ling that he is interested totally in Lan Zhan. A great admission.
The whole head part, Qin Su, it's all find parts of the story. They aren't my favorite parts. The story doesn't work without them, and they are needed, but not my favorite part. We are pulling the story apart alot here.
We are already up to book three. So there might be like 12 - 16 books. I orginally tought 16 volumes, but I'm now thinking maybe 12. We have some really great scenes coming up and so it might slow down again and take a bit longer to get through.

They have a good relationship and there is good drama. They are working adults and there is some great drama around them.
The story keeps building on itself and I feel like this has reached a climax with the story. I hope they can keep the great work going. Shin and Shiga are complex characters with great backstories and interesting arcs. The are in a high pressure job under the spotlight and it's only a matter of time before something gets out.

In this volume they go to Peru and Machu Picchu, Panama, to an Island and then to Mexico. They see some Mayan ruins and then go to a lake in a cave for some swimming.
I really love this series. It's all about travel and all the wonderful experiences one has. The author loves the food and we get all the wonderful offerings each city has and it's so well drawn. They make me hungry. The duo also give some history about a place. The author will throw in real tips on how to travel and what to look for in these places. It's great.
Plus the story is so wonderful. These two are falling more and more in love with each other. Asahi is ready to get married now. He is no longer afraid. They meet another traveler from Japan and they also meet another gay couple on their honeymoon from Canada.
The artist does amazing drawings of these cities and ruins and places to visit. Obviously, it's not like a picture or the read deal, but the details are amazing and it is still enough to make me want to go. There should be another volume out and I hope it comes out soon. I'm loving this....more

She is out of milk, so she has to go get milk from her cow. Her pets went with her. She is out of butter, so she has to make butter. I mean, this woman REALLY wants pancakes. She is out of maple syrup and she goes to buy some, but she leaves the pets at home.
She gets back and the ingredients have been eaten by the pets.
This is light hearted and simple. It's funny and cute and I loved this. It's a half-sized book. I highly recommend this book from the 70s.

It really has so much to say about our mindset. Sometimes, things are happening for a bigger picture we can't see until that picture is complete and then we see how it was all a set-up. Very fun book.
This is similar to the fable about the farmer who keeps having things happen to him. Something bad and all his neighbors comment on how unlucky he is, then something good and they comment on how lucky he is. The farmer stays neutral and just accepts the events for life and doesn't assign good and bad. It goes back and forth, calamity and windfall.
This story is different, yet in that vein. Duck ordered skates and they are 2 sizes to big. Then a wold shows up and tell her it's her lucky day, she won a pot. As the reader, we know what that's about, but the duck feels she is lucky. Then something unlucky, then the wolf brings onions and she feels lucky. Back and forth. It goes on until the wold comes to eat her and all the unlucky things that happened to duck, prevent the wolf from eating her.
The artwork is colorful and not that great, but it doesn't matter. The power of the story overcomes. The story is huge and wonderful and the artwork is enough to tell it, so it's fine.
I think kids would have so much fun with this. I think they will love it. Some will get the set up and some won't and that would be fun to read with a group....more

There are two girls who are best friends, such good BFFs they are practically the same. They are different races though, but it didn't matter to them. Accept, one girl's family flew the confederate flag in their yard. So the other girls family, Kiera, wouldn't let her go play at Bianca's house. It wasn't safe. Kiera didn't understand that.
One day, the class took a fieldtrip to a Southern Legacy Museum. There, Kiera learns the true meaning of the confederate flag. Bianca's family says it's a symbol of southern pride and heritage. Kiera sees the violence that comes with that flag and it's usually violence against people of color.
Kiera is so affected that she has a hard time being friends with Bianca. When Bianca finds out about the flag, she doesn't really understand.
I do like the ending for this book. It's good. Eventually, Bianca's family takes down the flag and the girls can be friends again.
The artwork is sort of dark and sort of light. There is hope and fear all in the artwork. It's very well done.
Great story.
I grew up in the south. Arkansas might not be the heart of dixie, but it was very Southern. I never felt like I belonged growing up. There was that confederate flag everywhere. I knew so many people who flew it and used it to let people know when a party is happening. It was everywhere. I hated it and still do.
The thing I never understood, was the confederates were traitors to the nation. They attacked the united states of America. Yes, we forgave them, but why use that as a symbol of pride. That's the worst part of our history, that civil war. How can we put up statues of generals who betrayed our country. I never understood that and I can't understand why people so fiercely defend it to this day. It was never a symbol of the south until they succeeded from the US. It can only ever be a symbol of traitors to the nation. I just can't wrap my brain around it.

Alphabet books are interesting and this one pokes a little fun at them in the best way. It uses all the weird ways words are spelled to show off how bizarre English is. They didn't even go into silent stupid letter like Salmon. I still vote to re-spell that word and leave out the l. Anway.
The title gives away what's going to. P is for Pterodactyl which sounds like it starts with a T and doesn't. They point out Arkansas which ends in S and has a w sound at the end. Side story. I went to Interlochen in high school for the summer and meet people from all over the world. Hans was from Germany and his mom was an English teacher. I was from Arkansas. He kept correcting me and saying it was Ar-Kansas. He would not believe me that it wasn't pronounced that way. I tried to tell him it's an Native Indian word, but he only thought I was trying to trick him and he wouldn't fall for it. Anyway.
With this word, I learned how to pronounce Quinoa (Keen wa) and Oaxaca which is (wahaka). I knew Quinoa, but didn't realize the spelling. I simply didn't know how to say Oaxaca. That's a tough one to type too.
The artwork was childhood cozy fine.

Again, thI've missed these two Japanese world tourists. This volume, our characters are in South America: specifically: Brazil, Argentina and Bolivia.
Again, the author loves to show us the food, the best part of traveling and I'm here for it. There were some good looking things here.
We have some family coming out. Surprise, Asahi's brother and his girlfriend is also in Brazil at the same time and they meet up. There are some very cute moments. They spend time together on the beach, a ring is lost and found and Asahi finally comes out to his brother. It was tough, but a good outcome and it needed to happen.
They went to a huge waterfall on the border of Brazil and Argentina that's like Niagra Falls. It looks pretty cool. Then, they went to Argentina and visited the salt flats. I know it's simply drawing, but the sky reflecting off a surface like that, I would love to see that some day. So cool.
They got altitude sickness in Bolivia, but they went to an old abandoned train station that looked interesting.
Anyway, the story went fast. We saw new places in the world and the characters moved forward in their journey. I love this story. I give the story a 5 stars overall and I want to own this series....more

I still get a high when a story is a great surprise and can lift your spirits. It's wonderful. This is a modern Korean Fairytale told by Suzy Lee and translated into English.
Usually Suzy Lee is a wordless story teller and this time, she is giving us a story with words. I love the artwork. It's so modern and green. It is made up of simple lines and few colors. It's mostly shades of green or purple. The artwork is stylized and somehow adds to the story in a way I wouldn't think it could.
The story is fantastic. There is a tree in a valley that provides workers shade. A traveler finds the tree is about to join the workers when the landowner comes and kicks them out saying its his shade, his tree, his land. So they all leave. The traveler then buys the shade with all his money. The landowner takes the money and he leaves. The traveler now shares the shade with everyone.
The ending is wonderful. I don't want to spoil it. This is worth getting from the library.
Spoilers: So, sometimes I look back at my reviews to remind me of a story and I haven't written the ending and I forget what it was. I'm getting old. Anyway. So, I'm going to write it down as a spoiler.
The traveler followers the shade of the tree as the sun sets and the shade grows longer and longer till the shade falls over the landowners house. The traveler bops into the home making the landowner angry at the intrusion. The traveler says, I own the shade, so I own the house when it's covered. The landowner had to agree and he grumbles and moves to another house.
I love it in stories when greedy people are beaten by their own greed. ...more
An emperor is looking for a successor and he has no heirs. He decides to give a test to all the children iA Chinese fable about the virtue of honesty.
An emperor is looking for a successor and he has no heirs. He decides to give a test to all the children in the land. He hands every child a seed and tells them to grow a beautiful flower. Our main character Ping, has a green thumb and is known throughout the land as growing the best flowers anywhere. He can make anything grow.
A year passes and Ping hasn't been able to get anything to grow. He is so confused why it won't grow. The kids all around him have beautiful flowers they've grown. So Ping shows the emperor his empty pot and the emperor chooses him as heir. You see, the emperor boiled all the seeds, so no one's seed should have grown. Ping was the only honest one.
I love that. The true heart wins. Wonderful. The true heart is also gifted.
The artwork is more subtle for Demi. Still, I haven't heard this story before and it's so well told. She uses the giant circles to fill in on the page. She paints some beautiful flowers.

IThis is volume 6 of this story and we are half-way through. Everything has been working toward this volume and what a pay-off. We have a love story. It's fabulous as well.
Mo Ran and Chu Wanning cleared the air in the previous volume. Now, they sneak away for some kissing in Sisheng Peak. They steal kisses. All the sweetness. They both hold each other in such high regard.
So, how Xianxia works, as soon as our characters have some happy and lovely time with each other, you know the world is about to go to hell. I fully expect the next volume to come along and rip them to shreds. It's like clockwork. It will happen over and over now. I don't know why Xianxia is that way, but I'm sure it will follow the formula. This is our lovers last happy moment, real happiness as now our characters will be tortured for the rest of the story.
At least I have this volume. Usually, the end of the Xianxia tv shows is nothing but pain and torture and any pleasure taken in the story is shredded.
Still, I will always have this volume. I love the moments that Mo Ran and Chu Wanning have together. It's amazing to see Chu Wanning happy. It's such an odd thing.
Also in this volume, the scent of our villain is picked up. He leads them on a goose chase. Mo Ran knows there is someone behind the scenes still that he hasn't found yet. We have a lot more story to go. Who knows what all will happen.
Nangong Si was claimed by Chu Wanning as a disciple. He is being tortured at this point. The proud young lord at the top of the cultivation world has fallen so that all the lowly cultivators can kick him and bully him. They love it. It's a hard thing to watch. People do love to see the powerful fall.
I see lots of foreshadowing in this one. It's going to be interesting to come.
Thank you Meatbun for the night at the Inn we got. What a grand evening.
