Man, this was good!
I loved Gideon and Harrowhark's snarky hateful love for each other.

description

Fast pace, great dialogue, lots of humor, and an incredible setting. It feels like some kind of crazy mash-up of fantasy and science fiction. Necromancers in space with nothing but their (semi) faithful sword-wielding guards to protect them or something.

description

That ending! What?! I want more. I've got such a good feeling about whatever that more consists of that I'm really excited to get my hands on the next book.

description

The audiobook with Moira Quirk as the narrator was wonderful! If you're into audiobooks, go for it.
Good stuff, especially if you're looking for something a little outside the box.
Recommended.

Anne Me too!

Robert This has been a TBR for me for ages, perhaps now I’ll finally get on the necromantic train 🚂

Anne DO IT! I loved these two girls and despite everything, I think they still have a chance for a HEA. lol

message 5: by Mayda (new) - added it

Mayda (My Book Cafe Life) I have this in my kindle and will tackle it after I finish Gleanings. But I’m now tempted to try the audio book 🤔😁

Anne Sometimes the audiobook just makes it better for me. Plus, my eyes! The older I get, the more I lean into audiobooks.

h o l l i s yessss love this. oh and I can't wait for you to experience Harrow.

Anne She narrates the next book, right?

Chantaal Yesss I love when people love this book!!

Anne Took me forever to figure out what to say about it. So weird and great and funny and all the things!

message 11: by MasterSal (new)

MasterSal Dang it - and I just unhauled this 🤦‍♀️

message 12: by Anne (new) - rated it 4 stars

Anne Unhauled?!

Pat the Book Goblin I tried reading this twice but couldn't get past the writing. Everything about it seemed intriguing but I just couldn't get into it for some reason. Maybe third times the charm? lmao

Anne I listened to the audiobook. Maybe that's the key?

Claude's Bookzone Such a brilliant book! Great review, Anne ❤️📚

message 16: by Anne (new) - rated it 4 stars

Anne Thanks, Claude! I still need to grab the next one but I'm wondering if I should just wait till the last book comes out so I can binge the ending and not wait.

That's always the million dollar question Anne!

Anne I know, right? I've got a ton of other TBRs (who on this site doesn't?) that I can go to first, but I'm really interested to see what happens next.

So I felt like Harrow the Ninth was the most deliberately designed rereadable book ever. I was completely lost for a huge chunk of it first time around and then I came back and read it a year later and it was an entirely different experience. I'm really interested to see if book three is designed the same way.

message 20: by Anne (new) - rated it 4 stars

Anne Really?! That's happened to me before, too! I'm thinking it wouldn't be a good idea for authors to expect readers to give a confusing book another go-round, but I know exactly what you're talking about.

Seriously, it's a HUGE risk she takes with her readers but I'm kinda here for it. Breathe of fresh air to see something so different and #3 is still my most anticipated release this year. I went into more details in my review (actual two reviews from two different reads). Safe for you to read them now.

Anne See that makes me want to wait till I can snag that last book. I'm terrible when it comes to re-reading books before the next one releases, and my memory isn't all that great, so when I have a long wait it hurts me. I wish I had more days in the week or more time in the day or something.
It sounds SO good though!

Justin Yeah I can see waiting for sure. She's got a ways to go. I was really debating getting prints of the covers when Nona released but...she needs to stick the landing before I'm willing to put those kinds of resources into geeking out.

Alexander George Oh that's awesome, I bought the audio book on itunes last winter because it was 3.99, and forgot I had it until I saw this on my feed. I will definitely be listening it to it this week.

Yeah, a bad ending can KILL a series.

That's so cool! Please let me know what you think. I thought the audiobook was great.

message 27: by Juju (new) - rated it 4 stars

Juju Yes! I actually just listened to Gideon again last month, I love it so much. Moira Quirk is amazing and brings it all to life. Be warned, Harrow the Ninth is also good, but it's a puzzle box... and long. You'll be intentionally confused for half of the book.

message 28: by Anne (new) - rated it 4 stars

Anne Really?! Ok, well I'm ready for it now. lol
At least now that I know I'm going to be confused, maybe I won't be as frustrated.

message 29: by Juju (new) - rated it 4 stars

Juju Awesome, I think you'll enjoy it then. Yea, had I known you're supposed to be disoriented, I would've been able to just luxuriate in the confusion. It's a very different book, since you're in Harrow's brain. But damn I love this series.

message 30: by Anne (new) - rated it 4 stars

Anne Alright. I'm ready!

Chris Lohn Thanks for the great review and recommendation. I keep going back and forth on this one. The title and cover are really enticing. Your review pushed it over the edge!

message 32: by Anne (new) - rated it 4 stars

Anne Oh, man! And I haven't even read the next book yet. I keep waffling!
