"Ace Ukiyo... it's game over for you."
―Girori eliminating Geats.[src]

"Remember what I said? You're done getting your way. The audience has deemed it so. Management shall fade away, leaving the future of this era in the hands of its denizens."
―Girori's last words to Samas before they fade away with the DGP Management[src]

Girori (ギロリ)[1] was a Game Master (ゲームマスター, Gēmu Masutā) of the Desire Grand Prix who transformed into Kamen Rider Glare (仮面ライダーグレア, Kamen Raidā Gurea).

History

Background

Little is known about Girori's life, he was designed by Suel and appointed the Game Master during Niramu's run as producer.

Daybreak Arc

Girori in EP1

Girori seeing Ace Ukiyo's trump card.

During the final round, Girori served tea to Ace Ukiyo. He asked him if he was going to fight the Jyamato, until the young man replied he had a "trump card" in his hands, the Boost Buckle. As the Game Master, Girori watched the Desire Grand Prix in a private sector of the Desire Temple, monitoring the state of the tournament and its participants through countless protector screens while also remaining in contact with its navigator Tsumuri regarding the state of the tournament.

After Geats wins this DGP once again, the DGP staff on revolt confront Girori in the green room. The staff leader demands Girori grant their desires. But Girori says the unfulfilled wishes of the retired players are to be used for a greater purpose, not for their selfish desires.

The staff leader and other staff could care less about those “losers”. Girori tosses Win a Driver. Win remembers Hiroki’s wish is also his wish. So he takes the Driver, locks in the PunkJack Core ID and henshins. He refuses to let Hiroki and their dreams go to waste.

Girori uses the Vision Driver to henshin and turns the traitor staff into controllable minions. He tells Win that he gave him the PunkJack Core ID so he can become a Kamen Rider.

Girori warns Win about Ace Ukiyo and says they may have to take disciplinary action on him later on.

Encounter Arc

Game Master observes Ace

Game Master observes Ace Ukiyo.

As the next edition of the DGP commenced, Girori masqueraded as the kind concierge at the lounge, allowing him to personally keep an eye on the players to ensure they follow the rules while informing them of Jyamato outbreaks. Girori however, specfically targeted Ace Ukiyo for observation as he has continuously won game after game, with some of his wishes bringing him closer to finding out what the Desire Grand Prix is keeping from its players.

Conspiracy Arc

To keep Ace from advancing any further, Girori discreetly sent Win Hareruya undercover to sabotage Ace, promising that Win would keep his memories after the game if he succeeded. At the same time, Girori became vexed at Archimedel for allowing the Jyamato to transform into Riders. After Ittetsu Tanba's elimination, he allowed Keiwa Sakurai to return to the tournament as Tycoon while gifting the Feverslot Buckles to the players to counter the Jyamato Riders.

Girori Transforms into Glare

Girori revealing himself as Game Master to Ace and transforming into Glare.

As he continued to sabotage Ace's progress, his work was undone by Niramu's interference, who warned Girori not abuse his position as Game Master. When Win reveals his mission to Ace, Girori reneges on his promise in letting him keep his memories. Girori finally took matters into his own hands, revealing his identity to Ace and transforming into Kamen Rider Glare for the first time. Win transforms into PunkJack to fight him, but Girori uses his powers to brainwash Win into fighting Ace. Ace is unable to transform and is ultimately eliminated when the musical chairs game ends.[Conspiracy V: Glare of Anger]

The remaining Riders Keiwa, Neon Kurama, and Michinaga Azuma faced the final boss in the last round, but were unable to do much, and so Michinaga died. Girori had hoped they would be strong enough to fight without Geats' help, but prepared the Boost Buckle to help them. Ace arrives then, having regained his memories by using pre-written instructions he left for himself, leading him to touch an ID Core. Ace exposes Girori as the Game Master while Neon reveals that her father is funding the DGP and demands answers. Tsumuri agrees that they should stop keeping secrets, but Girori says nothing and leaves. Ace is allowed back into the game since his very first wish was to play the DGP until he dies, and he defeats the final boss by himself. However, Girori abused his powers as the Game Master to prevent the world from resetting and made another game to kill off Ace and be rid of him for good.[Conspiracy VI: Kamen Rider Qualifications]

Kamen Rider Geats × Revice: Movie Battle Royale

Girori was usurped by Colus who took Tsumuri hostage and stole his Vision Driver. The Game Master was then imprisoned in a secret room, but Geats found his location and released him. Girori then faced Colus and engaged in a sword fight with him. After learning that his colleague wanted to summon alien invasions to turn Earth into a ceaseless battlefield, Girori managed to disarm and slay Colus, reclaiming his Driver in the process. He then transformed and used his Game Master powers to reverse the Desire Royale.

Termination from his Duties

In the interim round, the Rider that kills Geats will be made the Deza Shin. Girori attempts to use two GM Riders and even turns a brainwashed PunkJack into a suicide bomber to defeat Ace, but to no avail. Girori also tries to convince Keiwa into fighting Ace by giving him a copy of the Command Jet Buckle and showing him Ace's wish to become a DGP staff member, with Keiwa pretending to accept Girori's help. Meanwhile, Neon learns from her father about Niramu being the Game Producer and having authority over the Game Master, and arranges for Girori's corruption to be exposed to Niramu.

Geats episode 16 girori disappears

Girori disappears

The GM Riders lead Ace to Keiwa, who battles him. With Keiwa seemingly losing against Ace, Girori attempted to join in the fight, but Keiwa defends Ace from an attack. Neon then arrives with Niramu, with her and Keiwa revealing the whole fight was a setup for Niramu to spectate Girori's interference. After being defeated by the three Riders, Niramu forces Girori out of his transformation. As he vanishes, Girori pleads the Desire Grand Prix needs him to stop the Jyamato from evolving, though an unfazed Niramu states there are plenty of replacements. Once Girori finally disappears, Niramu confiscates the dropped Vision Driver and congratulates the three Riders.[Conspiracy IR: Fox Hunting]

Return

Girori was among Game Masters summoned by Suel for the DGP finale. However, after learning the truth about DGP's true intention, he turned against the organization and joined Ace's side, having realized that the young man had now shared the same intents he had before. [Genesis X: Tsumuri's Requiem] After the defeat of Suel, he faced Samas and Black Tsumuri on the Desire Temple before they and the DGP were all removed from the present world by Ace. [Daybreak I: Here Comes The Highlight!]

Personality

As a Game Master, Girori took his role in impartially serving the players very seriously as he holds a high level of respect for the players who give their all to fight for the title of Deza Shin. He is a strong believer for a world with happiness and peace, and scorned those who disrespected the players' fighting spirit. For instance, he quickly acted to deal with the team of Keibi Riders who planned to use the ID Cores of the retired Riders for their own gain, and later on clashed with Colus over their differing ideals of how the DGP should be used, of which he eventually emerged victorious. He even clashed with Suel himself due to him turning the game into the opposite of what the DGP stands for, only to appease the VIPs. He's even willing to put the DGP management in the villainous role, including himself, that the Riders need to defeat, if it can return the DGP to its roots for the audience to enjoy.

Game Master Unmasked

Unmasking himself as the Game Master, Girori has kept a watchful eye on Ace Ukiyo's actions.

Though ironically, despite wanting a peaceful world, he's fully dedicated to the DGP, at least its original premise, and has no qualms sending Jyamato to attack people by contacting Archimedel to get the display of the Riders' fighting spirit, threatening world peace himself, though he'd ensure that the Riders win. He'd also go out of his way to protect the DGP's secrets, showing paranoia from Ace Ukiyo's consecutive win streak as his wishes brought him closer to learning the secrets of the Desire Grand Prix, and developed a personal vendetta towards him.

Girori became desperate to rid the game of Ace to and ensure his elimination against the rules of the higher administration, and he has no qualms abusing his Game Master authority to do so, planting Win Hareruya into the game in order to disrupt Ace's actions, while breaking his promise to Win to ensure he keeps his memories after being eliminated. This mistreatment caused Win to defect to Ace, leading for Girori to intervene as Kamen Rider Glare, while also mind controlling Win as a suicide bomber, to personally kill Ace himself. His actions also put a rift between him and Tsumuri, who insists that the staff should be impartial to players.

He was also quite irritable and short-sighted in his actions, leading to the outcomes he did not expect, like Niramu intervening to give Ace Command Twin Buckle when his schemes to eliminate him becomes obvious. He also dismissed Ace's warnings in how the Riders were not his pawns, thinking that his plans would certainly prevent Ace's participation, overlooking Ace's first wish that permanently kept him in the game. This ultimately proved to be his downfall when he forced Keiwa and Neon to hunt Ace down, manipulating the former to have him believe that Ace's wishes are "worthless" and does not contribute to world peace, only for them to expose his actions to Niramu instead, getting him dismissed. However, when Girori learns Ace's true goals and actions that had been revealed in the months since his termination, he acknowledges him as the Kamen Rider that the Desire Grand Prix had been looking for this whole time, even accepting his fate of being erased by Ace's will despite having a chance to escape.

Abilities

  • Hospitality: As a concierge owner, he is able to provide services to all Desire Grand Prix participants in a efficient way.
  • Cooking: All food and drinks offered in the Desire Store menu are personally prepared by Girori himself.
  • Swordsmanship: Girori had some degree of using a sword to kill Colus.

Weaknesses

  • Authority: Although Girori is in charge of running the DGP, he does not have the highest level of authority amongst the staff. As such, he instantly vanished when Niramu stripped him of his Game Master rank.

Rider Statistics[2]
  • Rider Height: 210.0 cm
  • Rider Weight: 84.8 kg
Ability Parameters
  • Punching Power: 32.2 t
  • Kicking Power: 64.4 t
  • Maximum Jump Height: 83.5 m
  • Maximum Running Speed: 100 m per 2.3 seconds

Glare's primary form is accessed by authenticating the Providence Card with the Vision Driver.

Compared to the Kamen Riders in the Desire Grand Prix, Glare's specs are significantly higher than any of the DGP players, being able to outpace and overpower PunkJack's Monster Form. He is also able to use several control devices on his suit named the Hypnoray (ヒュプノレイ, Hyupunorei) to control the Riders, by having it forcefully replace the Riders' Crest Gears and latch onto their heads. The Hypnoray can also be used to fire laser beams with an individual Hypnoray and charge a powerful blast with a pair of two.

Kamen Rider Glare consists of the following parts:

  • Glare Mask (グレアマスク, Gurea Masuku): The head.
    • Glare Antennae (グレアアンテナ, Gurea Antena): The dimensional observer. It performs dimensional observation within an observation range with a radius of 30 km, and is responsible for acquiring detailed information about the surrounding environment and objects before sending it to the Glare Vision.
    • Glare Vision (グレアヴィジョン, Gurea Vijon): The visual device. High-dimensional images processed in real time from cameras on various parts of the body are displayed on an internal hemispherical monitor to provide a seamless view of the real and virtual worlds.
    • Dimension Signal (ディメンションシグナル, Dimenshon Shigunaru): The detection device. By continuously monitoring the state of space-time, it detects events that may interfere with the stable operation of Kamen Riders, such as fluctuations in space-time, and issues a warning. At that time, the transformation may be canceled.
    • Head Pedestal (ヘッドペデスタル, Heddo Pedesutaru): The head device. It is responsible for expanding the functionality of the user's head, and by means of an unknown armor material called metamaterial, it has both high hardness that surpasses diamond as well as excellent toughness to repel all impacts.
    • Glare Crush (グレアクラッシュ, Gurea Kurasshu): The mouth section. It maintains the breathing of the user by preventing the entry of toxic substances, etc., allowing for the extraction of oxygen underwater and breathing for short periods of time in oxygen-free environments.
  • Division Armor (ディヴィジョンアーマー, Divijon Āmā): The armor. By means of an unknown armor material called metamaterial, it has both high hardness that surpasses diamond as well as excellent toughness to repel all impacts.
    KRGe-Hypnoray

    Hypnoray

  • Hypnoray (ヒュプノレイ, Hyupunorei): The control device. It is a part of the Division Armor that separates and forcibly attaches to the target's head to put them under control, the Hypnoray can be instantly used after transformation without the need of docking first.
  • Deflect Suit (デフレクトスーツ, Defurekuto Sūtsu): The suit-type combat power strengthening device. Using energy supplied from the Vision Driver, it dramatically raises the output of the player's physical abilities. It also boasts impregnable defensive power by deploying Circle Deflector (サークルデフレクター, Sākuru Defurekutā) electromagnetic deflection shields from the circular Deflect Pits (デフレクトピット, Defurekuto Pitto) arranged throughout the body.
  • Glare Arm (グレアアーム, Gurea Āmu): The arms. By supplying energy from the Vision Driver, it is possible to lift targets without feeling the weight at all.
  • Optimanipulator (オプティマニピュレーター, Oputimanipyurētā): The gloves. They demonstrate the power to dominate players of the Desire Grand Prix players by enhancing punch power and grip strength. A debuff program can also be applied to the target at the moment of impact to adjust the relative power balance.
  • Glare Leg (グレアレッグ, Gurea Reggu): The thighs. The energy supplied from the Vision Driver is gathered at the tip of the foot to activate finishing moves.
  • Optimaleggers (オプティマレガース, Oputimaregāsu): The boots. They demonstrate the power to dominate players of the Desire Grand Prix by enhancing kicking and jumping power. In addition, by deploying Circle Deflectors on the soles of the feet, they create a foothold in the air to secure an advantageous position.

This form has the following finishers:

  • Vision Driver finishers
    • Delete (デリート, Derīto): This finisher has two variations.
      • Glare hovers an enemy by their head above them, before dropping them and delivering a side-kick while the enemy is in mid-air, knocking them away.
      • Glare separates two of the Hypnoray from his shoulders and charges them around his right hand, the two circling whilst hovering over his palm. Glare then throws the charging pair of Hypnoray at the enemy.
    • Shut Down (シャットダウン, Shatto Daun): to be added

Behind the Scenes

Portrayal

Girori is portrayed by Shugo Oshinari (忍成 修吾, Oshinari Shūgo), who previously portrayed Emperor Maya in Kamen Rider Wizard in Magic Land. As Kamen Rider Glare, his suit actor is Takuma Komori (小森 拓真, Komori Takuma), who was also the suit actor for Kamen Rider Mary.

Etymology

  • Girori's name is derived from "stare" (ぎろり, Girori) in Japanese. Likewise, Glare is a synonym of the translation to Girori's name.

Notes

Game Master (original mask)

The Game Master's original mask in Episode 1's broadcast version.

  • In the broadcast version of episode 1, Girori's Game Master mask was originally a recolored replica of Karl Ruprect Kroenen's mask from the 2004 film Hellboy. To avoid potential infringement, online releases of the episode would feature the shot of the mask replaced by the lower half of the Game Master's body instead, while future episodes featured a new mask with a design original to the series.
  • According to Yuya Takahashi, Girori was planned to exit from the show after the Conspiracy Arc, as this would then delve into uncovering the inner workings within Desire Grand Prix management.[3]
