"Come on. I never totally fit in with the gang, anyway."
The subject of this article is part of an MCU franchise story that has been officially deemed to be non-canonical to the primary continuity of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Its events instead occur in another reality within the Multiverse. This universe is designated as "Ultimo Transformation".

Nicholas Joseph "Nick" Fury is the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D.. Fury actively worked to dismantle the terrorist group A.I.M. due to its ties to the plan developed by former General Valentin Shatalov. Fury himself commanded the Helicarrier in order to destroy Ultimo by ramming the vehicle into the robot.

Biography[]

Attack on the Tesla Facility[]

"I'm about to issue a retreat unless you girls decide to get your heads back in the game."
―Nick Fury[src]

Tony Stark contacted Fury and asked permission to land in Russia and investigate a situation, so Fury noted that S.H.I.E.L.D. had been contacted about Valentin Shatalov's forces taking over a base in Russia. Fury dispatched a team with Stark while he led the Helicarrier to attack from the other side. Fury reminded Stark that his mission was to keep the vanguard under the radar. Fury heard as Stark planned to attack a Roxxon Armiger on his own but a S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot was killed trying to provide covering fire. Fury then ordered the remaining pilots to let Stark handle the attack.

As Stark and the remaining helicopters arrived at the scene, Fury noted that Shatalov's insurrectionists were outmatched and ordered a continued assault. As Stark entered the insurrectionists' ship, Fury warned that Roxxon could still be in it and assured Stark that they would not attack until Stark was clear. Stark then promised to shut down the ship's shield. Once the shield generators were destroyed, Fury congratulated Stark. Stark began to leave the ship and told Fury to bring it, which Fury did despite his worries about Stark still being inside.[2]

Hacked[]

Fury Allows Hacking

Fury hesitantly allows Tony Stark to hack S.H.I.E.L.D.

"I'll keep an eye on him."
"All right. But don't overstay your welcome."
―James Rhodes and Nick Fury[src]

Fury caught Tony Stark hacking S.H.I.E.L.D., so he demanded to know why. Stark said he was borrowing S.H.I.E.L.D. satellites, so Fury reminded Stark that he did not have the security clearance to do that. However, James Rhodes appeared next to Stark and explained that he did have clearance, and that they were trying to find the remote power source used by the Roxxon Armigers. Fury hesitantly allowed them to stay. Stark jokingly asked how many laws he was breaking, so Fury told him to simply find the power source and leave.

Stark and Rhodes discovered a base in Siberia where A.I.M. was developing a Crimson Dynamo Armor and buying the energy required to recreate J.A.R.V.I.S. from the Dataspine. Fury then showed them a picture sent to them by their spy in the facility a week prior, Natasha Romanoff. Rhodes expressed concern for Romanoff, but Fury said that she was off grid and that S.H.I.E.L.D. was waiting to learn more. However, Stark said that he was targeting the base anyway and would rescue her if possible. Stark found Romanoff, and Fury sent a transport to their location to retrieve them. Once Romanoff had been retrieved, Fury congratulated everyone. Fury then met with Romanoff, who revealed that Kearson DeWitt was in charge of Crimson Dynamo project. Pepper Potts then revealed that DeWitt was a former employee of Stark Industries.[2]

Air Strike[]

"Can you get me a sky strike?"
"How do you expect us to fire one inside there while you're inside?"
―Tony Stark and Nick Fury[src]

Tony Stark, James Rhodes, and Natasha Romanoff left on a mission which was meant to be radio silent to attack the facility where Project P.R.O.T.E.A.N. was being operated. However, Stark broke radio silence to contact Fury and ask for an airstrike on the facility. Fury asked how he was meant to do that while Stark was still inside, but Stark simply explained that he would handle that part. Stark explained that Kearson DeWitt had done something to P.R.O.T.E.A.N. which caused it to infect his armor and interfere with his systems. Stark created an opening in the roof for Fury's strike, and Fury confirmed that Stark understood he was within the line of fire, but Stark dismissed him. Fury tried to reach Stark and prepared an extraction, but Stark then responded and explained that he was fine and that his P.R.O.T.E.A.N. infection was cured by the strike.

Fury Upset About Explosion

Fury responds to the explosion

Fury sent the Sweep Team to look for DeWitt, but they were unable to find him. Fury told Stark, who started a search for other bases where he could be. Stark and Romanoff began to argue, and Fury insisted they return to the Helicarrier. However, J.A.R.V.I.S. suddenly detected an anomaly. Rhodes approached what he believed to be the anomaly, but an explosion blew him backwards, and Fury swore. Stark's armor collapsed and shut down, and Fury ordered an extraction and medical team for him. Ultimo started speaking through J.A.R.V.I.S., so Fury ordered the teams to hurry.[2]

Operation Daybreak[]

"Get someone armored up, Stark. We're losing this fight."
―Nick Fury to Tony Stark[src]

Fury returned to the Helicarrier, which fell under attack by Ultimo's forces. Fury commanded the defense, and once Tony Stark joined the fighting, asked for a situation report. Stark explained that he was using a limited armor and that he needed to get James Rhodes into his armor. Fury responded that someone needed to get in the armor since they were losing the fight. Fury alerted action stations when the situation went to Condition Red. He ordered a force shield lifted as A.I.M. soldiers attacked for a second run.

Fury looks over the A.I.M. Arc Armiger

Stark defended his private jet and boarded it as Rhodes took off, so Fury asked if he had a plan besides running away. Stark explained that they were getting Rhodes a better armor. Rhodes assured Stark that they would get A.I.M. away from the Helicarrier and that they would return. Meanwhile, an A.I.M. Arc Armiger was deployed against the Helicarrier, so Fury requested assistance. Rhodes fought the remainder of A.I.M.'s forces and defeated the Arc Armiger, allowing Fury to approach it. Stark joined them and explained that the Project P.R.O.T.E.A.N. technology inside the Armiger was working to repair it.

Project Greengrid[]

Fury Greengrid Reaction

Fury learns about Project Greengrid

"Tell me why you went to earthquakes."
"It's global. It's everywhere. And everything sits on it."
―Tony Stark and Nick Fury[src]

Tony Stark held a meeting with Fury and the others and posed the question of where one would start when tasked with weaponizing everything possible. Fury said earthquakes since they were global. Stark went onto explain that Stark Industries did not do seismic research, so Fury guessed that they would be targeting the sky. Pepper Potts remembered Project Greengrid, which Stark explained had the side effect of creating large storms. Fury asked if Stark actually had plans to weaponize the sky, so Stark defended himself, saying that he was under a weapons contract. Stark and Rhodes then planned to attack Project Greengrid.[2]

Battle at Stark Archives[]

Fury prepares to crash the Helicarrier

"Fury to War Machine, we've got a present for you wrapped in a pretty bow."
―Nick Fury to James Rhodes[src]

Fury went to Stark Archives in the Helicarrier as part of Tony Stark and James Rhodes' plan to defeat Ultimo. At Rhodes' command, Fury launched a series of missiles from the Helicarrier, allowing Stark the ability to enter Ultimo's body. He explained that S.H.I.E.L.D. reconstructed Project Greengrid and could create a storm over Ultimo. However, Ultimo infected the technology and fired it at Rhodes, allowing him to infect Rhodes' armor. Stark asked Rhodes and Fury to do a lot of damage all at once to prevent Ultimo from repairing, so Fury told Stark that they were sending everything in and to make it count. Stark was able to defeat Ultimo, but then got attacked again. Stark drained life support's power in order to stop Ultimo, and Fury warned that he would die, but Stark simply told him to shut up. Stark escaped a weakened Ultimo and told Fury that it was his turn. Fury piloted the Helicarrier into Ultimo's body, destroying both.[2]

Personality[]

Fury was a strategically-minded individual who was willing to do what it took to get a mission done. He was immediately able to come up with a hypothetical strategy to weaponize everything, and explained that he used the Helicarrier specifically because of that. He was willing to crash the Helicarrier and put it in danger in order to stop Ultimo. However, he was also loyal to those close to him. He hesitated multiple times to follow Tony Stark's instructions when it meant putting Stark's life in danger.

Abilities[]

  • Master Tactician: Fury was a skilled strategist, able to come up with plans for hypothetical situations on the fly. He also orchestrated a large scale attack in Russia and navigated it with two separate teams.
  • Expert Pilot: Fury was able to pilot the Helicarrier and crash it into Ultimo.
