Days Gone: How to upgrade motorcycle? Days Gone guide, walkthrough

Last update: 12 December 2022

Your character's motorcycle is the only means of transport that you will come across in the Days Gone game. It serves the hero as a way of escaping opponents and quickly traversing the map. On this page of our guide to Days Gone you will find information about the motorcycle, and you will learn how you can improve it and what you will gain from it.

Where can you upgrade your motorcycle?

You can upgrade the motorcycle by buying parts from mechanics - Days Gone: How to upgrade motorcycle? - Motorcycle - Days Gone Guide

You can upgrade the motorcycle by buying parts from mechanics. The first mechanic of this type is Manny, who is located in Copeland's Camp. The meeting with Manny is a compulsory part of the main storyline, as he will give Deacon a motorcycle, which will replace the machine lost in the events of the prologue. The new motorcycle is initially deprived of any improved parts.

The second mechanic from whom you can purchase parts stays in Iron Mikes encampment at Lost Lake - Days Gone: How to upgrade motorcycle? - Motorcycle - Days Gone Guide

The second mechanic from whom you can purchase parts stays in Iron Mike's encampment at Lost Lake. This is the southern part of the map, which you will unlock only after advancing far enough in the game. There is no way to miss the moment when you reach this camp.

The mechanic from the Hot Springs encampment does not offer any parts for sale. You can only fix and refuel the motorcycle there.

Purchasing new upgrades

Modifications of Deacons motorcycle are divided into three main categories - Days Gone: How to upgrade motorcycle? - Motorcycle - Days Gone Guide

Modifications of Deacon's motorcycle are divided into three main categories. The first group concerns Performance improvements. These are the only of the available improvements that affect the statistics of the bike, i.e. that can make it faster, more durable or more spacious. You can purchase engine, exhaust, fuel tank, frame and tire upgrades, as well as motorcycle bags and nitro.

Cosmetic changes

The second category of improvements are Visual modifications - Days Gone: How to upgrade motorcycle? - Motorcycle - Days Gone Guide

The second category of improvements are Visual modifications. The list of available parts includes, among others, new versions of headlights, exhaust tips, rims and bumpers. Modifications to the appearance do not affect the behaviour of the motorcycle on the road. These are only cosmetic changes.

The third group of improvements are the Paint modifications - Days Gone: How to upgrade motorcycle? - Motorcycle - Days Gone Guide

The third group of improvements are the Paint modifications. You can paint the motorcycle in a different colour, put on one of the special skins, or put stickers on it. Do not forget about the possibility of using the L2 and R2 buttons in order to look into separate tabs, in which there may be, e.g. other types of varnish (such as matte).

Why can I not purchase some of the motorcycle modifications?

Many of the motorcycle upgrades are not available right away, even if you have the required amount of credits to finance the transaction - Days Gone: How to upgrade motorcycle? - Motorcycle - Days Gone Guide

Many of the motorcycle upgrades are not available right away, even if you have the required amount of credits to finance the transaction. The purchase option may be blocked by a second requirement - a sufficiently high trust level with the residents of a given encampment. In the example shown in the picture above, Deacon must first gain Trust Level 2 in order to unlock the option of buying the saddlebags.

The explanation of the mechanics of gaining the trust of an encampment's inhabitants is provided in the chapter on Encampments. In short: you can earn trust points by completing missions related to a given camp, and by providing its inhabitants with supplies and Freaker Ears. After collecting a certain number of trust points, Deacon can advance to a higher trust level.
