This page of the guide deals with the character progression system in Elex 2. Here you will learn all the information about gaining experience, attributes and unlocking skills. We posted tips on how to gain attribute points faster and how to acquire skills without having to learn and meet their requirements. Our tips will show you how to use Modifiers, Specializations and potions that permanently increase your character's attributes.

Leveling up

Leveling up in Elex 2 gives you 1 skill point and 10 attribute points per level - Elex 2: Character progression - leveling up, attributes, learning skills - Basics - Elex 2 Guide

Leveling up in Elex 2 gives you 1 skill point and 10 attribute points per level. Attribute points can be used at any time during the game (you can find their list below). To unlock skills, you need to find the right teacher and meet specific requirements - detailed instructions on acquiring skills can be found in this guide.

You need experience to level up the character. You can get experience points in several different ways - by killing enemies, completing quests or even reading letters and notes that you find. Of course, the higher the level, the more experience points you need to gain for the next one. You can check the progress in the character menu.

Ways of leveling up fast can be found on a separate page of the guide: Experience - how to earn?.

Attributes

As mentioned above, when you level up, you will receive 10 attribute points that you can spend on the following attributes - Elex 2: Character progression - leveling up, attributes, learning skills - Basics - Elex 2 Guide

As mentioned above, when you level up, you will receive 10 attribute points that you can spend on the following attributes:

  1. Strength - increases melee damage.
  2. Constitution - increases the maximum number of health points.
  3. Dexterity - increases damage in ranged combat.
  4. Intelligence - increases magic damage.
  5. Cunning - increases critical damage.

The choice of which attributes to improve should be related to your play style. If you are mainly using melee weapons, focus on Strength and Constitution. Dexterity is required for effective ranged combat. At first, you only need 1 attribute point to increase an attribute by one level, but as you upgrade an attribute, the cost increases and you can reach up to 5 attribute points for one upgrade.

Attributes affect not only the statistics (health points or damage) described above. Upgrading attributes also allows you to use better weapons - each weapon requires you to develop a given attribute (or two) to a certain level. Skills also have this type of limitation.

Modifiers and potions that increase attributes

Leveling up and spending points is not the only way to increase your attributes - Elex 2: Character progression - leveling up, attributes, learning skills - Basics - Elex 2 Guide

Leveling up and spending points is not the only way to increase your attributes. Attributes can also be increased through Modifiers, i.e. special items that permanently increase a given attribute. You use modifiers in your inventory, just like weapons or armor - just put a modifier in the appropriate slot (you only have one). You will find these types of items while exploring the world. Also, some merchants have them on offer.

Elex 2 also offers potions that permanently increase a given attribute when consumed. Just like Modifiers, potions can be found in the game world and purchased from some merchants. You can also create them yourself - if you have the recipe, ingredients and the ability to create potions.

How to get attribute points faster?

There are also several ways to gain attribute points faster in Elex 2 - Elex 2: Character progression - leveling up, attributes, learning skills - Basics - Elex 2 Guide

There are also several ways to gain attribute points faster in Elex 2. First of all, look for Medium Elex Drinks. Each Medium Elex Drink gives you one attribute point. You can find these special potions in various locations and purchase them from some merchants. You can also create them yourself.

Besides that, there are also two skills that can help you. The Attribute Points skill gives you 10 attribute points right away - you can only use this option 5 times. The Attribute skill gives you an additional attribute point for each character level - you will then receive 11 points instead of 10.

If you don't know how to create potions, check out the Crafting page.

How to unlock skills?

Skills, or perks, in Elex 2 are an extremely important part of character progression - Elex 2: Character progression - leveling up, attributes, learning skills - Basics - Elex 2 Guide

Skills, or perks, in Elex 2 are an extremely important part of character progression. They allow you to increase damage dealt, open locks or extract resources from ores. In the hero's menu, you will find all the skills divided into trees, but you can't unlock skills here. You have to find the right teacher.

Trainers specialize in specific skills. If you want to learn melee skills, you need to find a melee teacher. Skill teachers are usually important characters (those with names). It is a good idea to talk to each character you meet and check whether he or she has an option to teach you something. Sometimes it is necessary to complete a quest, pay or join a specific faction to unlock the option to learn from a given character.

Once encountered, the teacher will be marked with a book icon on the map - Elex 2: Character progression - leveling up, attributes, learning skills - Basics - Elex 2 Guide

Once encountered, the teacher will be marked with a book icon on the map. In addition, by hovering over the skill icon in the character menu, you will be able to mark the trainer on the map (if you have previously discovered the teacher of this skill). Finding a teacher is not enough. You must have perk points earned for leveling up your character. In addition, you also have to increase selected attributes to the required level. You will also have to pay with Elexit crystals.

You can reduce the cost with the Cheaplearning skill.

Specializations - extra way to get skills

Skills in Elex 2 can also be obtained without unlocking them at teachers - Elex 2: Character progression - leveling up, attributes, learning skills - Basics - Elex 2 Guide

Skills in Elex 2 can also be obtained without unlocking them at teachers. You can do that thanks to Specializations, i.e. items worn like weapons or armor - you will find a Specialization slot in your inventory. Equipping such an item provides the skills included in the description - you bypass not only the need to learn it, but also the requirements. You can find specializations during exploration and in the offer of some traders.
