the ufo felt only like a footnote or a sidenote to this book, which is supposed to be a novel, but reasadly, i had too high expectations for this one.
the ufo felt only like a footnote or a sidenote to this book, which is supposed to be a novel, but read like non-fiction, or vice-versa? it looks at our protagonist, who is interested in space and ufos from a small age, and as he grows up, we see how he finds that extraterrestrial experience in music, drugs, and religion, in a journey that continues on through his life.
there was some things to like about it in the beginning, like the short shocking chapters, but sadly, it wasn't for me. ...more

our mc suffers from the distance between her and her childhood best friend when they start college, and she encounters an older woman, who becomes somewhat of a kindered soul to her and they break into people's houses together just to observe them.
it felt like a surrealist dream, and throughout the story we're not sure if this older woman is real or a figment of her imagination, for it to end in the epilogue with the weirdest ending possible.
it felt raw and real, but i didn't feel the sentiments of the characters really....more

We follow Tig, a young woman who goes back to the old twon of her ancestors to honor her grandfather, who was the mayor and a beloved hero of the town. While in town, she slowly discovers the truth about her heritage, the twon, her grandfather, and the woman who supposedly killed him.
We alternate in time, between present and past, as tig talks to the people who lived in that town, between those who viewed her grandfather as a hero, and those who didn't, and she relates that to her own personal experience and what she knows of her father and grandmother. It deals with heavy topics like rape, assault, abortion, abuse, and many others. and it filled me with rage for these woman. ...more

It also ends in a way that sets it up to be a series following these children in their small cozy town, where some strange magical things are happening.
We follow mainly CJ and Parker, two 11 years old kids, one of them is a talented photographer and the heroine is an aspiring journalist, who finds herself chasing a story that seems normal in her small town (kidnapping pets?) but she slowly discoveres that there's something sinister going on and it's something she can't share with the adults around her.
It was interesting to see the parents play active role in hindering her adventures and the efforts she undertook to go on her adventures, as it seems in some middle grade books, that parents are almost non-existent in order for the kids to run wild.
Anyway, it was just okay for me. a fun fast read, but not too memorable. I might be interesting in reading a sequel...more

You've got the quirky secondary characters, the female main character down on her luck, and all the quirky coincdences. and it's not even engaging enough, I read 80% of it and just skimmed the remaining to get to the ending. so dissapointing, as I expect this writing from some YA contemporaries, or if it was a debut, but this was neither. ...more
