Books and book shops are two of my favourite things so a book that combines them with a second chance romance is hard to beat especially when it champions romance books as worthwhile and memorable reading. I loved how strong Stevie had become since she lost her first love. The “plot twist” was perfect and fun. This is an ultimately uplifting book that deals with loss (of people and possessions) , tragedy, friends, family, and judgment by others. I cried while reading the book, but I also felt joy. The characters are so well drawn that I, as the reader, loved or hated the activities or personalities of the characters - the sign of an excellent author who can draw a reader into the lives of the people in the story. This was a new to me author, and I will definitely be reading more of her emotional stories. I understand by the author's notes at the end of the book that some of the characters in this book, especially Carol, are found in her earlier books. I love that continuity. ...more

This was a heartbreaking and heartwarming book wrapped into a story of loss, tragedy, fear and love. The three best friends, Aiden, Everett & Cameron are well developed characters with faults, foibles and strengths. I loved the idea of the wishing box for their birthdays and it was a wonderful plot tool. I wish that the friends had all been more open to telling each other their hopes and dreams and wishes but the reticence and fear was definitely believable if a little overdrawn. That said, I laughed and I cried throughout the story and couldn’t wait to find out if there would be a happy ending. This was my first read of a book by Tara Sivec and it impressed me its ability to draw me into the story and the characters and I got very emotional thinking of the struggles portrayed. I am really looking forward to checking out some of her other books. This was an engaging, enjoyable and an emotional read; a great combination....more

The plot has many twists and turns and there is a possibility for multiple happily ever afters for the characters. Will Lydia, an oft ignored daughter heading for the shelf in the marital stakes, be one of the happily ever afters? Things do not start well for Lydia when she is abducted by the Scottish rogue Brodie Kincaid due to a case of mistaken identity. I loved Lydia’s deportment during all of her trials and the romance that was eventually developed but I found Brodie’s attitude somewhat troublesome. So long as you can get past his slow awakening you will find this a welcome addition to the series. I definitely appreciated the author’s addition of historical facts and her picturesque settings. I so hope that some of the other characters featured in this book, especially Rafe, Aiden and Lysandra, get their own stories in future books.

This is a sweet slower story both in action and heat level than the first book but definitely grabs at your emotions in both the portrayal of the hero and the heroine. Natalie is a perfect foil for Garrett, the newly minted Earl, who has a tarnished reputation not only due to his own actions but to those of his deceased father. The author has done a commendable job of creating an appealing hero despite his past and her characterization of the heroine is nuanced and captivating. I, the reader, genuinely liked Natalie and hoped that she would find her happily ever after ending. A romantic read that left me with a feel good feeling.

This charming, short novella, that introduces Collette Cameron’s Heart of a Scot series, features an arranged marriage through a childhood betrothal. What could go wrong when a six year old, Logan Rutherford, is forced to sign a betrothal agreement that binds him to an infant, Mayra Findlay? There are hints that the contract has been coerced and that Mayra’s parents are leery of the outcome. The prologue, set in 1701, does a wonderful job of creating both a highland setting and the underlying tension of the promise. Chapter 1 finds us almost two decades later (1720) and adds the element of mistaken identity/lie to the story mix. Cameron has written a sometimes humorous, sometimes aggravating, sometimes sad tale that draws the reader into the characters and creates a wish for a happily ever after ending. I enjoyed the Scottish setting, the character development and the premise but did find the resolution a little rushed due to the constraints of a novella. All in all, this is an appealing introduction to the series.

VThe third book in The Unwanted Duke series gives us Vivianna’s story, the estranged wife of the Duke of Margate and the eldest of the Darby sisters. Viv left her husband four years ago when she caught him in bed with another woman. Since that time, she has focused her life on seeing her younger sisters happily married in love matches. With two of her sisters married, will she get a happily ever after? The book opens with Viv being told that her husband, Ryder, has suffered a near fatal accident and he is asking for her presence. She is told that he is dying and even though she is conflicted about going to see him she feels that it is her duty. The scene setting for her tumultuous ride to his home is very well done and it really drew me in to the story. If you are unwilling to consider forgiveness when infidelity is involved than this is probably not the book for you but I found it an emotional journey that pulled at my heartstrings. Both Viv and Ryder had come to their marriage with totally different perceptions and experiences. Viv had believed that they were in love, Ryder thought that he had found the perfect society wife who did not expect a constant husband. During this book both grew not only in maturity but in love. If you have ever believed that you hated someone for something that they had done to you, but also secretly desired or even loved that person, then you will find both Viv’s actions and this book appealing. I loved that we got a great happily ever after and that both Viv and Ryder were willing to admit to their mistakes. An emotional read and I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

The set starts with Book 10, The Duke of Seduction - an emotional story that features an intelligent wallflower, Lady Lavinia Gillingham; an apparent rake with a touch of mystery, William Beckett, the Marquess of Northampton; and a great romance. The next book Book 11, The Duke of Kisses is a more lighthearted book that follows the story of Frances Snowden and David Langley, the Earl of St. Ives. David, unfortunately has already been promised to another. Can the two surmount the odds and find love together? The book concludes with Book 12, The Duke of Distraction - the one that I was putting off reading because I didn’t want the series to end. I particularly loved this book that finally had a happily ever after for Sarah Colton and Felix Wavers, the Earl of Ware. This box set captured my imagination - I did not want it to end. I am happy to see that some of the characters that did not get their own story in this series do in the Spitfire Society series that follows, also by Darcy Burke. Any of the stories in this series can be read as stand alone books but the reader will, in my opinion, get more enjoyment from them if read in sequence. I absolutely loved all of these stories. If you want to experience heart rending stories with fabulous male and female characters open this book (or any in the series), relax and enjoy.

The book does a good job of creating characters and dilemmas that will feature in future stories. In this story Miss Watson is a combination of brash and demure and in trying to solve a problem for her brother she causes more problems not only for herself but also for her intended hero David, her brother and her best friend. Although some of the story, especially the ending, seems rushed I enjoyed the characters and can't wait to see what happens in book two.
