"9001: A Mario Odyssey" is the twenty-seventh live-action segment of The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!. The title is a pun on 2001: A Space Odyssey, and the episode is somewhat based on its story. "9001: A Mario Odyssey" is paired with the animated episode "On Her Majesty's Sewer Service."
Synopsis[]
Einstein makes a pizza-creating machine named HAL 9001 that begins to take over Mario Brothers Plumbing.
Plot[]
Einstein sets up a computer called HAL 9001, claiming it does not have any flaws with its programing. Einstein shows the Marios that HAL 9001 can make any pizza and orders a "pepperoni pizza with no anchovies or fried eggs." HAL 9001 gives him the pizza. Einstein leaves and tells them that HAL 9001 won't mistakes but if it does, just call him. Luigi decides to order a "sausuage pizza with no anchoives or fried eggs."
HAL 9001 gives them a popcorn pizza. There are several past failures such as a puppy biscuit pizza, a pencil pizza, a shoe pizza, and a hamburger pizza. The Marios decide to pull the plug but it hypnotizes them. It then orders them to eat every one of the pizzas it made. Fortunately, Einstein comes and shuts off the machine before it can force the Marios to eat those "horrible pizzas." Mario surprises Einstein by asking him "what horrible pizza?!" and starts to eat the popcorn pizza.
