"The Artist" is the forty-second live-action segment of The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!. It is paired with the animated episode "The Ten Koopmandments."

Plot[]

While Mario is busy raiding the refrigerator Luigi works away with a drawing. Just then, the phone rings. Mario answers and learns that Luigi won an art contest and that the judging artist is coming to meet him. Luigi is overwhelmed by the news and decides that the place needs to be cleaned up. Mario is also excited and starts to clean himself up.

Luigi can't get over the fact that he won and eagerly awaits the artist. The artist comes and identifies himself as Vincent Van Gook. He and Luigi set up an easel and prepare to work but Mario accidentally drops a bowl of spaghetti onto a newspaper on the floor. Van Gook praises Mario for his creativity and takes him as his apprentice.

Mario and Van Gook start up working on some new art while Luigi jealously points out that he was the winner of the contest. Van Gook claims that Mario is still the better artist and Mario arrogantly agrees. Luigi angrily goes to read the paper. Van Gook tells Mario that in order for his work to be distributed it will cost fifteen hundred dollars. Luigi then discovers that the artist isn't Van Gook but just a con-man.

Trivia/Goofs[]
