In Super Mario series[]

Super Mario World[]

Floating Mines often appear floating in water, and they make their first level appearance in Yoshi's Island 4. Yoshi can jump off of a Floating Mine harmlessly, and Mario or Luigi can defeat a Floating Mine by touching it while under the effects of a Starman. Yoshi can eat a Floating Mine without taking damage.

In the Sunken Ghost Ship level, there are Floating Mines that are falling down making navigating around fairly difficult.

This is the first 3D appearance of a Floating Mine, and their design here became basis of their design in several subsequent appearances. Floating Mines appear in all three boss fights against Bowser, and are the means of defeating him. In the first two battles, Bowser in the Dark World and Bowser in the Fire Sea, Mario can quickly defeat Bowser by throwing him into a Floating Mine once. In the third and final battle, Bowser is only defeated after hitting a Floating Mine three times.

Super Mario Galaxy / Super Mario Galaxy 2[]

In Mario's Time Machine[]

Mine MTMDX

In the Super Nintendo Entertainment System and PC versions, Floating Mines appear as obstacles in the Time Surfing minigame. In the former version, if Mario touching a Floating Mine, he loses all of his Mushrooms, although in the latter, touching a Floating Mine only causes him to lose one.

In Mario Party series[]

Mario Party 3[]

Floating Mines are featured as an obstacle in the Cheep Cheep Chase minigame. Whenever the characters approach a Floating Mine, they have to duck under it, otherwise, it explodes on it, slowing them down and putting them at risk of being swallowed by the Mega Cheep Cheep.

Mario Party 6[]

Floating Mines appear in the 1 vs. 3 minigame Sink or Swim, in which one player tries to drop Floating Mines on the other three players. Unlike several other appearances, Floating Mines do not explode, although they do slow whoever they hit.

Mario Party Superstars[]

Floating Mines return in the minigame Cheep Cheep Chase, in which their role is the same as in Mario Party 3.
