What I li**spoiler alert** What if the world was facing the spread of a disease which caused humans to change into Biters but the public had no clue!
What I liked about the book: the first scene-it had me cringing and wanting to close my eyes yet I couldn't stop reading it. how the media and the PTB choose to keep the people ignorant. the ugliness in the lives of the people who survived-it all made it feel more real.
What I didn't like: Some words like the "Ritual" etc were just thrown about and I had no clue what they meant. Yes, this was because I haven't read the first part but I think a little explanation would have gone a long way. ...more

I kept cringing at Feane's violent behavior but I also liked that about her- it made me realize she wasn't human but a wildling and predator at that. I missed Finthe and all the other characters from the first book and kept hoping they might be added to the story. The kits were the cutest and their antics added the much needed lightness to the story. The humor was done just right. Atall's fate made me realize that anything can happen in these books and I like the unpredictability. My one problem was with Oria forgiving the traitor-even momentarily-so easily. Good story, lots of action & humor and full of crazy wildlings who'd do anything for their family. What's not to like?...more

What I liked about it: the pretty cover. it was the right length. the beginning was pretty interesting. the epilogue ties the reader to the sequel without being pushy.
What I didn’t like: the story and all its twists were too predictable the synopsis mentions something about girls disappearing but we’re never shown what happens to them.
It is a sweet story about two people in love who thought each other to be lost forever. ...more

There was a female lead who, if not exactly capable of kicking ass, was a leading geneticist– brains over brawn any day! The freaky way the vaccine changed them all was amazing-no death causing viruses or flesh eating zombies, yet horrific in its own way. Prison takeovers are the scariest things ever and the author combined it with a post apocalyptic scenario! The ever present threat of the convicts getting to our heroine was sufficient to keep me reading . I loved the fact that the author didn’t even need to show much violence to keep the readers hooked– she just let us imagine what “could” happen, if they got to her. ...more

it took the story of heavenly strife and turned it on its head
the supporting characters were each shown a lot of love
it was a chunkster but like Alana said, it was worth it!
the author does great one liners and I'm already a fan of her sense of humor after reading Wastes of Space.
Helion was the cutest-he was like a lost puppy..a kid discovering simple delights like food and shopping.
Reading about Lucifer behaving like a guy smitten with love was interesting and the way he switched back to his old archaic self when hurting was awesome!
BUT:
be warned that there's a lot of silliness-Belial, Andy and Paimon behave like teenagers..a lot! If you don't want to read about ancient demons acting that way, you might not wanna read this.
not much actually "happens" in the book till the ending.
the way Furcas and Paimon reverted back to being Faith and Patience and just "magically" solved all of Dahlia's problems was a bit annoying.

There's something to be said about books which suck you in right from the very beginning. This was one such book. It was exactly the right length and the way it ended made me want to get my hands on the sequel right away. What was missing were more details about the place the stems were being kept. Yes, we were given hints that emotion wasn't encouraged but I would have liked to see a glimpse of the day to day life there. I loved the fact that the stems were strangers to the concept of physical intimacy and all the scenes with Aaron (while he was at the hospital) left me worried about what had been done to Gryff. I also loved the deviousness of the scientists- I mean devious scientists are the best kind! The secret about Aaron's mom was expected but still a good one.

What makes it different is that Cheyenne-the female lead– falls for a bad boy and realizes that he isn’t perfect. Even though, she’s hopelessly attracted to Denver, she tries her best to keep a cool head around him. I did find it odd that she didn’t much resent him biting her but I guess that could be because it opened a whole new world to her. I loved the twins and their completely different personalities. What didn’t sit well with me was that Cheyenne kept disregarding her dreams. I mean you’re at a magic school and those dreams felt ominous, yet she didn’t seem to pay attention to them. The mystery surrounding the statue of the angel and the Fallen Angel was intriguing and I hope there’ll be more about them in the next book.

The humor kinda reminded me of the book, Agent to the Stars by John Scalzi. I enjoyed every second I spent reading this book. I wanted to hit Danny over the head for being so stubborn and getting Theo killed-nope, didn’t feel sorry for Keto even once! I started to feel weird and grossed out when I first started liking the Hunters but they came through in the end. Rake was..clean Rake was almost too much to take and I kept thinking, Poor Ravail, what have you gotten yourself into! Ravail came a long way from being a scared kid to a woman who could mouth off to Rake! The last scenes were hilarious– everybody ended up in space. Can’t wait to read the next book! ...more

the humor-bad things were happening and the situation looked so hopeless and then unexpectedly, something made me laugh! How I connected to the characters-absolutely hated Frank and Lisa (Emily too) and almost stopped reading when Kirk "died"! I could feel the desperation (Hicks) and the loneliness (Bev)-written beautifully. I also like how the characters realized their error and tried to put their life back together. the ending was well done.
