A Burt (also called a Bouncing Burt) is an enemy which exclusively appears in the Yoshi platforming games, making its debut in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. He is a round clown-like enemy who wears big light blue and white-striped pants extended about halfway up his body.

A Yoshi usually encounters a pair of two Burts. Burt always attacks alongside his partner. When he jumps on his partner, who is another Burt, he will gain boost, meaning that he can jump higher. He and his partner will continue this cycle until one is destroyed. If a Burt's partner is destroyed, he will jump nonstop. It takes a ground pound or an egg to destroy a Burt. Burts usually leave behind Stars when defeated. If Yoshi already has 30 Stars, the Burt will drop Coins instead.

In the Yoshi's Island series[]

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island/Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3[]

In these games, Burts are commonly found in Forts such as Burt the Bashful's Fort and Bigger Boo's Fort. They attack by hopping around. They can be defeated by either ground pounding them or throwing eggs at them. Standing on a Burt will cause it to stop. The first mid boss of the game is Burt the Bashful, a giant-sized Burt.

Yoshi's Island DS[]

Only two Burts appear in the entirety of Yoshi's Island DS, and both of them are encountered in Castle of the Big Burt Bros.. In this game, they hop much slower and can be defeated in the same way as before. Once again, they leave behind Stars or Coins upon defeat. By tossing an egg at a Burt, you can view it in the Museum, they appear in the Land Exhibit. Just like the previous game, the first mid boss is two giant Burts. The Big Burt Bros.

In Yoshi's Woolly World[]

Burts make another appearance as enemies.

Trivia[]

• Burts are among the few enemies from Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island and Yoshi's Island DS to not return in Yoshi's New Island.
• A Burt is one of the few enemies that resembles a Human.
• Beanies from Yoshi's New Island behave very similarly to Burts, additionally, the first boss of the game is a giant-sized Beanie (named Big Beanie) just as a Burt is the first boss of the previous Yoshi's Island games.
• Though Burts do not appear in Yoshi's Crafted World, they received a new variant, Beach Burt.
