"True Colors" is the 23rd episode of The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3. It is themed around racism, mainly shown when Luigi asks Mario if the real world will learn not to judge others based on their skin colors.

Plot[]

King Koopa sends a group of Para-Goombas and Para-Beetles to attack the Mushroom Kingdom during nighttime, however, the town attacked the enemies with brooms until Mario and Luigi intervened, both wearing a Tanooki Suit.

King Koopa later expresses his disappointment to Kooky and Cheatsy, saying that the Mushroom Kingdom is too united. That's when both Koopalings get an idea, they decided that separating the Mushroom Kingdom into two parts would help King Koopa to conquer the kingdom. King Koopa had doubts about it, but he went along with it.

The next day, Kooky and Cheatsy fly to the Mushroom Kingdom and got red and blue colored substances called Koopa Color Goopa, they then proceeded to spray the paint all over the residents, including the Mario bros. The two Koopalings then respectively disguised themselves as red and blue Toads.

Kooky and Cheatsy do their best to separate the red-colored toads and the blue-colored toads, trying to make the red-colored toads believe that the blue-colored toads were terrible people and vice versa. Their planned worked so well, that even the Mario brothers, who were colored differently, had fights with each other. The Koopalings later persuade the kingdom into having a "rumble" against each other.

That night, under Princess Toadstool's request, Mario and Luigi went to King Koopa's Castle to figure out what was going on, they went through all the paths until they stumbled upon three pipes. Mario and Luigi later get into a fight about which pipe to go through, until they eavesdrop on Kooky and Cheatsy's conversation. After listening, the brothers realized that they fell in King Koopa's trap, they later apologize to each other. Mario then gets an idea.

The day after that, all the toads start questioning whether or not they should fight or not, but later go along with Kooky and Cheatsy. That was until the Mario bros. alert the kingdom about the loss of Princess Toadstool. The Toads decide to help her since according to them, she is their princess. It turns out that the princess is fine and that she just wants to inform the kingdom, along with Mario and Luigi, that no matter how they look like, they are all equal. The Koopalings, disguised as Toads, try to convince the kingdom to "rumble". That was when their identities were revealed, Cheatsy calls for King Koopa only to find him asleep. With no hope, both Koopalings run away.

Princess Toadstool asks Mario if the red and blue colors will fade away, Mario says yes, but he also states that it doesn't matter anymore since the kingdom learned that it is what is in the inside that matters. Luigi then asks if the real world (referring to us) will ever learn that lesson. Mario chuckles and answers by saying that it will happen when humans get as smart as mushrooms, before staring at the camera angrily.
