Preston has only recently become a duke, after his brother died after being assaulted. Preston is determined to get revenge on his brother death, and the best way to make the guy who is responsible pay is to marry his daughter. Preston has seen Penelope Beckett when she was a friend to his late brother. He was always sure she was after his fortune, and he made sure his brother knew his thoughts about her. But now his brother is gone, and Penelope will be his wife. It will be the perfect revenge. What Preston didn’t plan on, was getting to know Penelope and realizing she is not who he thought she was.
‘All Duke and Bothered’ was an enjoyable read. The two main characters Preston and Penelope have a lot of prejudice about each other. They get married because Preston forces Penelope into it, and they are both sure they won’t be happy ever again. But when they slowly get to know each other better, they both realize there opinion about each other isn’t based on facts. And they grow closer and closer. I enjoyed reading their story, and seeing how their love developed.
The whole reason why they married, and the fact there feelings changed so drastically felt a bit much at times. But it fitted the genre and the characters. I especially loved Penelope’s character. She loved painting and was determined to keep on practicing her hobby to get better. Even though she lived in a time where woman weren’t really allowed to paint, she had accepted her fate of becoming a spinster just so she could continue her passion. She was one tough character.
And the best part? The fact that Preston was so passionate about Penelope being able to paint, even when they got married. I loved those moments when Penelope was immerged in her paintings. And although I wished Preston wasn’t so keen on revenge a lot of the time, his character had a lot of charm and I enjoyed reading about him.
‘All Duke and Bothered’ was a fun read. And I especially loved being in this era again. In the end of the book we get a hint about the next book in the series, and I definitely hope to read that one too. ...more

A short time ago her sister and brother in law where killed in an accident, and now Fredericka is taking care of her sisters kids. Fredericka loves them with her whole heart and is determined to make sure she will be the one to take care of them. Unfortunately to make sure this happens, a husband is what she needs. Luckily the Duke of Wyatthaven is in need of a wife to make sure he doesn’t lose a huge part of his grandmothers inheritance. Both Fredericka and Wyatt don’t want to be married, so being married to each other sounds perfect.. They both don’t want anything out of the marriage.
But you can imagine things soon change. To make sure Fredericka keeps custody of the kids, she needs to show London her marriage is the real deal. And the more time Fredericka and Wyatt spend together, the more they start to like each other. Soon they are in a complicated situation. But the most important part is, they both don’t hate pretending they are in a love filled marriage.
‘Yours Truly, The Duke’ was a book that pulled me in right from the start. I enjoyed getting to know the characters, and found myself wanting to keep on reading. Fredericka’s character was my favorite. Although she lived in a time where marriage was the only thing that could save her, she was a tough lady that didn’t need anyone to take care of herself. I loved how determined and brave she was, and how she made sure right from the start that Wyatt knew she wasn’t in this marriage for more than the safety of the kids.
Wyatt’s character was definitely charming. And I enjoyed reading how enchanted he became with Fredericka. The romance part in this book was very mellow, but it fitted the story. I did wish there was a bit more romance in this book to be honest. The main characters seemed to spend more time a part from each other, than they did together. I think I would have loved this book a lot more if the characters spend more time together. And the moments they didn’t spend together, well those moments where a bit slow to me.
I enjoyed the writing, and I loved the friendship between Wyatt and the other dukes. And I’m definitely curious about the other dukes after reading this one. ‘Yours Truly, The Duke’ was my first historical romance novel in a while, and it was a nice one for sure. I’m definitely looking forward to reading more books in this series...more

Luckily for me I got a Netgalley widget, and was able to start reading as soon as I could.
In ‘A Duke In Time’ we meet Katherine. Katherine was married a year ago but her marriage was anything but perfect. But due to her marriage Katherine was able to start her own business and make the best of things. When her husband suddenly dies, Katherine learns her husband married two other woman as well. Her husband having three wives could destroy everything Katherine worked for, so she is determined to find a way to make things better. But when she meets her husband’s brother Christian, the Duke of Randford, things get even more complicated. Because Christian is definitely not someone you can easily forget.
From the moment I started reading ‘A Duke In Time’ I was hooked. I loved the main character Katherine. For a woman living in the regency era she is definitely very tough. She works hard, has her own business and doesn’t rely on her husband for anything but his name. She had a great work ethic which I loved, but she was also really kind. I definitely loved everything about her character.
Christian’s character was also a great one. I loved how enchanted he was with Katherine, and how he acted around her. He definitely was charming, and as a reader he sure charmed me as well. With two of these fun characters, the chemistry was definitely flying of the pages.
I also enjoyed the originality of this story. I definitely haven’t read a book set in the regency era with this kind of love angle. It was fun and I really enjoyed it. Sure there where a few things I wished where a little different. For example the parts about the ‘other’ wives. There where a few moments where we read about how the other wives are doing, and in the end we don’t read about them as much at all in the end. I get why, because we are probably going to read their story in a next book. But it just felled a bit off to me.
‘A Duke In Time’ was definitely a fun read I really enjoyed. I look forward to reading more books in this series. ...more

I also loved the Netflix show, and just couldn’t get enough. So I started reading ‘An Offer From a Gentleman’ as soon as I could.
In ‘An Offer From a Gentleman’ we read the story of Benedict Bridgerton and Sophie Beckett. Sophie is the bastard child of an earl and her stepmother has made her life a living hell. Forced to spend her days as a ‘slave’ Sophie rarely has fun. But when she gets the opportunity to go to a masked ball she decides to have fun for a chance. And that night becomes the best night of her life. Sophie meets the handsome Benedict Bridgerton, and they spend a magical evening together. But it isn’t really, and at midnight Sophie has to return to her real life.
‘An Offer From a Gentleman’ is definitely a Cinderella story. So it was a little predictable, but I still really liked it. After reading about Benedict in the other books, I was really curious about his story. And it definitely didn’t disappoint. His character is kind and charming and although he can also be a little arrogant, I loved reading about him. He definitely had a Prince Charming vibe about him.
Sophie’s character was also fun to get to know. She had a hard life, and I was sad to read about her struggles. Life can be hard for a woman in her era, especially for one who is a bastard and has no one in her life. And it was nice to read about a character who wasn’t one of the ton.
Yes, this might be book three in the series.. but I’m still as excited to read it as with the first book. The story kept me hooked and it definitely made me want to keep on reading....more

I’ve read other books After reading ‘The Duke and I’ and watching Bridgerton on Netflix, I knew I wanted to read more books in the Bridgerton series. I’ve read other books by Julia Quinn in the past. So I knew I loved this author.. but I wasn’t prepared to love this series so much. I’m definitely a Julia Quinn addict now!
In ‘The Viscount Who Loved Me’ we read the story of the oldest Bridgerton brother Anthony. After Anthony’s oldest sister Daphne got married last season, Anthony now knows it’s time for him to find a wife. But he is determined to make this marriage thing work on his own terms. His wife must be pretty and smart. And he definitely doesn’t need the risk of falling in love with her. But when he finds the perfect candidate, her sister proves to be very difficult.
I was very curious about Anthony’s story. To be honest I didn’t really like his character all that much, throughout the first book, so I was excited and anxious to read more about him. And luckily this book made me like his character a lot more. Yes, he is quite arrogant and his search for a wife is rather strange. But in this story we get to know more about him.. and his love for his family makes him a lot more charming and loveable.
But my favorite character of this book was definitely Kate. She was just so much fun and she wasn’t afraid to speak her mind. Not even to an arrogant viscount. And I loved reading the little banters between Anthony and Kate.
Did I like this book as much as the first one? No, but it definitely came pretty close. The romance was fun and made me want to keep on reading. And above all it made me want to read the other books in this series too.
Yes, I’m definitely addicted. I see an Amazon order in my future. LOL!!...more

Unfortunately every eligible young men In ‘The Duke and I’ we meet Daphne Bridgerton, the fourth of eight siblings who is now off a marriageable age. Unfortunately every eligible young men Daphne had any interest in, has only seen her as a friend. So when the Duke of Hastings, Simon Basset comes back to London after his world travels he finds himself fascinated by Daphne. But Daphne is his best friends sister, and Simon is determined to never ever marry. Soon a fake courtship between the two, seems to be the perfect solution for both of them.
From the moment I started reading I was completely hooked. I loved getting back into the Regency Era, and was immediately charmed by the etiquette. Getting to know the Bridgerton family was definitely very charming. And I was soon curious about all these Bridgerton siblings. But above all.. I was soon hooked to reading about the Duke of Hastings, Simon. There was something very charming about him. And reading about his past, and how he became the man he is, made me love him right from the start.
Next to Simon’s character, Daphne was a very fun character to get to know. I loved her honesty and the way she wasn’t shy in her interactions with Simon. She made me laugh and I really enjoyed getting to know her. And I especially loved how tough she was with her older brothers. They definitely had her hands full with her.
The chemistry between Daphne and Simon was instant, even if they didn’t know it themselves and I couldn’t put this book down. I loved reading about their friendship at first, and then their romance. I wondered how they would come together in the end, and it was just so thrilling to learn more about their story.
‘The Duke and I’ was a wonderful story I loved from the beginning till the end. I read it in only two days, and that was only because I have a two year old running around. Otherwise I would have easily read it in a day. And above all I’m super excited to watch the Netflix series now. And book two is already ordered. ...more

So when I was offered the opportunity to read ‘How To Train Your Earl’ I was immediately excited. This is the third book in the First Comes Love series, but it can be read as a standalone. And this was my first Amelia Grey read.
In ‘How To Train Your Earl’ we read the story of the widow Brina Feld. After losing her husband years ago, she is determined to stay a widow and to spend her days helping others. Brina is content with her life as it is, but this all changes when she meets Zane, the Earl of Blacknight. Zane is no gentleman and he never expected to become the Earl. And the ton definitely agrees with him since Zane never does things the way a gentleman should. But Brina might be the one who can help him.
Unfortunately for me, this book ended up not being the book for me. I just couldn’t really get into the story, and I didn’t really like the two main characters all that much. Sure, this book was unlike your ‘usual’ Historical Romance since Brina is no innocent debutant looking for a husband so and I enjoyed that. But it also made me didn’t really feel the chemistry between the two main characters.
Zane’s character was kind of funny of times. I enjoyed how he always did what he wasn’t supposed to do as a gentleman. But I also didn’t really understand how he could have loved Brina so suddenly. For one who usual spends his days surrounded with woman and gambling, he sure changed his ways easily.
The friendship between Brina and two other ladies who lost their husbands was fun to read about. And I definitely became curious about their stories in the previous books, but I’m not sure I will be reading those. I just missed the romance and chemistry with this one....more

Ramsay has dedicated his life to investigate London's most notorious gaming hell. And he is very good in his job. But when the owner of the gaming establishment is Cecelia Teague, things get complicated. Cecelia sparks his interest right from the start. But Ramsay doesn’t trust woman, and especially not someone like Cecelia.
Cecelia has seen some terrible things in her life. And although she lives in a time where woman are supposed to do what men tells them to do, Cecelia has been able to do her own things. And when Cecelia inherits an gambling establishment she is determined to make it great, and do all she can to make sure the woman in her care are safe.
‘All Scot and Bothered’ had a very slow start. We read a little about Cecelia’s childhood, and then we start with a view moments when Ramsay and Cecelia meet. Although it was nice to read about those moments, I thought they didn’t really add a lot and I just thought it didn’t quiet work that well. But thankfully after those first view chapters I began to like this story more and more.
There was way more to Ramsay’s character then I first expected. And I loved how intense he felt for Cecelia. He fought it right from the beginning, but it was clear early on that he really liked Cecelia. But overall he just was kind of an jerk for the most part. He just kept thinking the worst of Cecelia without any prove. It didn’t bother me to much though. Because Cecelia’s character made up for it. She was definitely unlike any other female character I read about in a Historical Romance novel. She was tough, but really kind and I liked how independent she was for her time.
The romance between Ramsay and Cecelia took a long time to develop. I enjoyed their romance, but I just wish there was a little more of it. It seemed to be way more about Cecelia and her struggles with her inheritance. And although it was fun to read.. I simple like a little more romance. ...more

But when Anya meets the handsome Bow Street agent Sebastien Wolff, Earl of Mowbray it gets harder to keep her secrets. Especially when Sebastien is forced to protect her.
This book was one I really loved right from the start. I thought I would like the book after reading the book description, but I didn’t expect to love it as much as I did. I simple devoured this book and read until deep in the night just to finish it. Why? Well because this book is not your average Historical romance, it also had this very unique spin with the whole Russian Princess bit, and I simple loved it.
The chemistry between Anya and Sebastien was amazing, and definitely flying of the pages. I loved how easily Sebastien forgot his ways from the moment he first met Anya. And although Anya is pretending to be only a simple ‘assistant’, her real personality comes to the front a lot. She is definitely a tough female, especially for her time and I really liked her. There were also some pretty fun and hot moments and I simple loved these two together.
Next to the romance, this book also kept me in suspense. The traitor who is trying to find Anya isn’t one to give up easily, and those suspenseful moments kept me sitting on the edge of my seat. I also loved the little Russian traditions we get to read about throughout this read.
Overall ‘The Princess and the Rogue’ was a great read that made me want to read more from this author. Especially the previous two books in this series....more

So when I was approached to read ‘Highland Sword’ I was immediately excited and wanted to start reading right away. Although this book is the third one the in the Royal Highlander series, it can be read as a standalone. And that is what I did.
In ‘Highland Sword’ we meet Morrigan. Morrigan is a fierce young lady who is nothing like other ladies. She trains as a fighter, she goes on field trips with the guys and she isn’t one to marry or have a relationship. After Morrigan’s father was murdered, Morrigan has been wanting revenge. And she is determined to get it. But one evening, when she sees one of her enemies, she accidentally meets Aidan Grant. Aiden is immediately fascinated with Morrigan. But her has to patience with her.
This book is my first May McGoldrick read, and I definitely enjoyed reading it. Morrigan’s character is very fun to read about. Especially since she is so very different than other ladies. I loved how fierce she was, and how she was this badass.. especially as a young woman in that age and era. From the moment Morrigan met Aiden her life changed. And you could easily feel the connection they had.
Aiden’s character was also very fun. He was intrigued with Morrigan right from the start. But he soon learned he had to be patient with her. And that was what he was. Determined but patient, and I loved that. I could have easily read more about Morrigan and Aiden.
There were many times that I wished I read more about these two and their starting relationship in this book. There was a lot of information about Morrigan’s revenge and Aiden’s job too, and although it was interesting I missed the romance a little in those parts. When this book started it definitely took me some time to really get into the story. And I honestly had to push through. Luckily the connection between Morrigan and Aiden was good enough to keep me interested.
Overall I did really enjoy ‘Highland Sword’. But I wished there was more romance. ...more

I must have seen the movie over a hundred times, I can easily recite scenes from the movie, I’ve seen almost every documentary there is about the Titanic and I’ve been to the Titanic Artifact Exhibition in Amsterdam a view years ago. So when I saw the cover of ‘The Runaway Girl’ on Netgalley, I knew this was a book I wanted to read. And I was super excited when I received the email telling me I was chosen to read this book.
In ‘The Runaway Girl’ we meet Ava O’Reilly. Ava has been accused of stealing and the only chance at a better life is getting on board of the Titanic. As a third class passenger, Ava doesn’t have a lot of luxury. But getting to America is her only goal. When she enters the ‘ship of dreams’ she soon meets Captain Buck Blackthorn. He is out of her range, but there is something between them they can’t deny. But there’s also Buck’s friend, the countess of Marbury, who has been in love with him for a long time. And on the fateful night the Titanic hits an Iceberg both Ava and Buck need to make a difficult choice.
Well, this review is a hard on to write because I didn’t like this book all that much. From the moment I started reading, I had trouble liking the main characters Ava and Buck. I felt like this story was going too fast, and I didn’t really get a chance to really know the characters that well. And because of that, I didn’t really feel the connection between Ava and Buck.
The other part I had trouble with was the way I found this book to be to much like the movie. And not the Titanic part, but the romance part. The way they where from a different class, one of them being put in ‘jail’ while the Titanic hits the iceberg. To me it just felt like to much happened the same way and I was a little disappointed about that.
What I did enjoy was the author’s way of writing. I could easily imagine being in 1912 besides the characters and it was fun to walk through the Titanic again. You can definitely see the author did her research about the Titanic.
Overall, my expectations might have been to high for this book. And as a historical romance novel I didn’t feel the romance all that much. ...more

There’s just something about the etiquette of that time which really works for me and I’ve read several Historical Romance novels that I absolutely adored. So when I was asked to read and review ‘Wild, Wild Rake’, I was immediately super excited. Although this book is the sixth book in the series, it can be read as a standalone. ‘Wild, Wild Rake’ is my first book by Janna MacGregor.
In ‘Wild, Wild Rake’ we follow the story of Avalon. Avalon lives with her ten year old son after being widowed ten years ago. Her marriage was horrible, and she is grateful every day that her husband isn’t around anymore. Now Avalon does her best to help fallen woman, and be the best mom for her son. When Devan, the brother of Avalon’s son’s guardian shows up to spy on her. She is determined to make him leave. His reputation as a rake is something she is disgusted about, and she wants nothing to do with him. But soon Avalon and Devan learn that not everything they hear is true.
Although this book is a part of a series, I never once felt like I was missing out on stuff. Which is a great thing, and not something that happens a lot. Sure there are many books in series you can read as a standalone, and you still wonder if some stuff would be clearer if you read the previous books. This wasn’t the case with this book.
After I started reading, it took me a very long time to really get into this book. I was determined though to keep on going. So I did. But things moved really slow in this read. The romance between Avalon and Devan, not only took them a long time to figure out.. I also didn’t ‘feel’ their attraction to one another for a long time. And when the book came to its conclusion, I enjoyed their romance but didn’t love it.
The character of Avalon was one I definitely liked. She was strong and independent. And she really made what of herself despite her horrible marriage and her parents sort of selling her off. I admired her, and the way she stood up to man especially since this wasn’t all that common in that day.
Devan’s character was mysterious, and it took me a while to figure him out. But the reason he was a known as a rake was a little strange to me.
Overall I enjoyed this book, but I didn’t love it. It was a fun read, but I wished for more....more

Although it was the second book in a series, it could be read as a standalone. Since I love Historical Romance, and this book sounded really interesting, I accepted the request and started reading as soon as possible.
In ‘Scott Under The Covers’ we meet Miranda Harris. Miranda is perfectly okay with still being unwed after several seasons in London. She is known for her wit and charm, and she truly enjoys herself. When her beloved brother is in trouble, Miranda is the one he turns to for help. Before she knows it, Miranda finds herself being blackmailed in marrying a villain. When there seems nothing she can do to change this outcome, she finds herself asking help to handsome Aden MacTaggert. Aden is looking for a bride himself..
This is my first book by Suzanne Enoch. And although I really enjoy Historical Romance novels, this book was not for me. After starting this book, it took me a really long time to really get into the story. I found the pace being very slow, and the characters just weren’t really for me. I also had trouble reading Aden’s part in the beginning. His ‘accent’ was hard to get through, especially in those first view pages. But I managed to ‘get him’ in the end.
After I was almost halfway through the book, the characters started to grow on me a little. Especially Aden. He wasn’t as shallow and arrogant as I thought in the beginning. But I just didn’t really feel the chemistry between him and Miranda. And I found myself having a hard time keeping my thoughts with this read.
Unfortunately ‘Scott Under The Covers’ wasn’t the book for me. I really had to push myself to keep on reading till the end. ...more

In ‘Forever My Duke’ we meet the American Nathalie. Nathalie has travelled to Britain to take her best friends son to his family. Nathalie is determined to get Leo save and sound to his family, but life in Britain is very different than her life in America. Here there are so many ‘rules’ and woman are apparently less than man. Well, not if you ask Nathalie. So when Nathalie meets the Duke Hadrian, she isn’t at all impressed by him. He can be handsome, but nothing in his life was earned because he worked for it. Or is Nathalie wrong about him?
I truly enjoyed ‘Forever My Duke’. I love Historical Romance novels simple because I always find them to be so romantic. There’s just something about that era, the gorgeous gowns and that charming British way of life that makes me swoon. And although Nathalie’s character is definitely a little different I loved her. And I loved how she affected Hadrian.
Since it had been a while since I last read a Historical Romance novel, I simple loved the slow wooing in this book. It took Hadrian awhile, but when he finally realized he wanted Nathalie as his wife I loved the way he took care of her and slowly wooed her. He was definitely my favorite character in this book. He was the perfect British Duke if you ask me.
The chemistry between Nathalie and Hadrian was definitely I felt flying of the pages. And I loved reading their story from the beginning till the end. Although the beginning might have been a little slow, I think it fitted this story perfectly....more

In ‘The Widow of Rose House’ we meet widow Alva Webster in 1875, who has recently moved back to New York for a fresh start. After being married to an abusive husband Alva just wants to make it on her own. To make her fresh start she takes on the job of restoring an old mansion, which is apparently haunted. When professor Samuel Moore arrives at her doorstep with the suggestion he might be able to help her, she soon finds herself without any other options than to join forces with him.
This book started a little hard for me. I just couldn’t really get into the story to be honest. And honestly I think that has more to do with me, than with the writing itself. And fortunately I slowly began to love this book more and more.
It had been a while since I read a historical romance novel and this one is unlike any other I read. But I definitely enjoyed it, more than I thought I would. The two main characters Alva and Samuel are so different, but still so perfect for each other. I just loved reading there story and everything about them. Sure, there where some things I didn’t think where all that historical accurate, but it didn’t bother me at all.
The whole ghost thing was interesting enough, but not all that important to me. I just loved the romance and getting to know both Alva and Samuel better.

So when I was approached to read and review ‘The Duke Is But A Dream’ I almost immediately said yes. Although this book is the second one in the Debutante Diaries series, it can be read as a standalone.
In ‘The Duke Is But A Dream’ we meet Lily. Lily is the anonymous author of a advice column for young ladies. One evening, Lily finds herself in a lot of trouble and when she accidentally bumps her head she wakes up the next morning not knowing who she is or what happened. The only thing she knows is she really loves watching the handsome duke Nash, who is sitting next to her and apparently saved her life. Nash is determined to help the beautiful Lily figure out who she is. But in the mean time he hopes to spend more time with her.
From the moment I started reading this book I definitely enjoyed it. It had been a while since I read a historical romance novel, and I loved reading about the historical household and the beautiful gowns in this story. But most of all I loved getting to know the main characters Lily and Nash. Lily was this strong woman, who lost herself but never lost hope. I admired her character and her personality. Nash was this ‘angry’ guy who told himself he would never love someone besides his sister. But he really was a good guy and he had so much love in him. I just loved these two characters.
The romance between Lily and Nash was very fun to read about. But it also went a little to fast for my taste. The thing I love most about historical romance novels is the way there is always a long workup to the first kiss etc. In this book it all happened a little fast. Nothing that made me lose interest in the story, but I just think it didn’t fit the genre all that much. There just was a lot in this book that didn’t really fit the etiquette of the time this book was supposedly set. For example the fact that Lily was able to travel alone with Nash without having a chaperone.
But overall I enjoyed the story. I loved the characters and the overall storyline. It was fun to read and made me want to keep on reading till the very last page. I would definitely love to read more books in this series....more

Chase is trying to save his family’s ranch from falling into the wrong hands. And to achieve that goal he has to get married. But due to unforeseen circumstances, Chase accidentally marries Emily, a woman who definitely isn’t used to life in the country.
Although ‘Cowboy Meets His Match’ is the second book in the Haywire Brides series, it can be read as a standalone. I haven’t read the first book, and I never felt like I was missing stuff. This book is definitely a sweet and fun story that kept me hooked. Both the main characters Emily and Chase are fun to get to know. They are both from very different worlds, and that made for some fun conversations.
The romance between Emily and Chase was very mild and definitely took some time. But it was fun. I loved how they slowly grew closer and closer. And although I don’t think it’s possible to marry someone accidentally, not even back in the day, I still enjoyed this read. It was a nice and easy read that was perfect to read after a very busy day.
The one thing I didn’t really like about this book, was the way some things felt very rushed. In only a very small amount of time one of the characters was missing, than someone got shot, and if that wasn’t enough a young girl went missing too. This just was a little too much for my taste. Especially since these three things weren’t connected.
Overall, ‘Cowboy Meets His Match’ was a nice and easy read perfect for when you need something relaxing to read that’s not to complicated....more
Last year I read the first book in the Wescott series by Mary Balogh ‘Someone To Love’. I really loved that book. So when I saw ‘Someone To Trust’ theLast year I read the first book in the Wescott series by Mary Balogh ‘Someone To Love’. I really loved that book. So when I saw ‘Someone To Trust’ the fifth book in the Wescott series on Netgalley, I immediately requested it. Although this book is part of a series, it can be read as a standalone.
In ‘Someone To Trust’ we meet Elizabeth, Lady Overfield. Elizabeth is a widow, after her abusive husband died a view years ago. This Christmas she meets the much younger Colin, Lord Hodges. Elizabeth is nine years older than Colin, but from the moment they met there is something between them they can’t deny. In the beginning they both just see it as a good friendship. But slowly on they find themselves liking each other more and more. But the age difference is between them, and they can’t possible be together because of that.
I had very high expectations when I started reading this book. Especially after looking at that beautiful cover, and the fact that Mary Balogh is one of my favorite Historical Romance authors. I read several book in her Survivors series and just loved those books. Add the whole Christmas part to this book and it must have been a winner! Unfortunately this book didn’t really work for me at all. For starters I couldn’t really feel the chemistry between Elizabeth and Colin, which was a little disappointing to me and the story was just a little to long if you ask me.
There where a view moments in this book that I enjoyed though. The different Balls where Elizabeth and Colin danced, and the interactions between other characters from the Wescott series. In the end I found this book a little to long, and ending unexpectedly at the same time. It was a nice read but just not one of my favorites. But although this book wasn’t really what I hoped it would be, it still made me want to read the other books in this series. I just need to know what happens to the other characters. Sigh.. ...more
I love Historical Romance novels, but I haven’t read one in a while. When I saw ‘The Other Miss Bridgerton’ on Netgalley I immediately requested it. II love Historical Romance novels, but I haven’t read one in a while. When I saw ‘The Other Miss Bridgerton’ on Netgalley I immediately requested it. I’ve read the first book in the Rokesbys series back in 2016 and loved it. Since this is the third book in the series I knew I had to read it, one way or another. So I was super excited when my request got approved and I started reading as soon as possible.
In ‘The Other Miss Bridgerton’ we meet Poppy. Poppy has always been independent and smart. But being smart as a woman isn’t always approved of. One day Poppy is walking by herself, while visiting a friend, when she discovers a smugglers hideaway. Before she knows what really happens, she is kidnapped and taken aboard a ship and left in the cabin of a captain. This captain is Andrew James, who is getting ready to go on a time-sensitive journey to Portugal. The last thing Andrew want to do is take Poppy with him. But unfortunately, he doesn’t have a choice.
Ever since my baby girl was born, I haven’t been able to read a book in a day. Which I definitely don’t mind because I’m completely in love with our girl and want to devote all my time to her. But when I started reading ‘The Other Miss Bridgerton’ I just simply couldn’t stop reading. I read this book on Sunday, we didn’t have any plans and I finished this book the same day I started it. I read when my girl was taking her nap, while I was breastfeeding her and after she went to bed in the evening. It was such a great read I just had to finish it.
I loved reading about Poppy. Poppy definitely was way to curious and smart for a woman in her time. But it was so fun to read about. And it was especially fun to read how Andrew reacted to her. He didn’t dislike the fact that Poppy was so smart, he enjoyed talking with her. Which was complicated seeing he kidnapped her. This really made for some fun moments.
Andrew was also a very fun character I loved getting to know. He was a captain on a smugglers ship. But right from the beginning it was clear that there was much more to his story. Finding out what really was his deal was so fun. And the romance.. Sigh.. That’s why I love Historical Romance so much. The courting, the desire, the romance.. I loved everything about this read and it was just perfect.
The fact that this story took place mostly aboard a ship made it even more fun. It was unusual, and added a little mystery that I loved. And lets face it, the whole captain on a ship part makes this book even more romantic. I definitely have to read more Julia Quinn novels....more

I have moments when all I want to is read that genre of books. Historical Romance just has this magic to it, and I love being swept away to a time long ago when people wore these beautiful clothes and a lot of men were chivalrous. Reading Historical Romance is definitely the perfect way to relax if you ask me. So when I found ‘The Duke Can Go to the Devil’ waiting for me to read, I just couldn’t resist and started reading as soon as possible. ‘The Duke Can Go to the Devil’ is the third book in the Prelude to a Kiss series, and can be read as a standalone.
In ‘The Duke Can Go to the Devil’ we meet May Bradford. May isn’t like your average young woman. May has grown up sailing the seas with her parents and visiting lots of different countries. Growing up traveling also means a lot of the ‘normal’ British etiquette is lost on her. So when May’s mother dies and her father leaves her with her aunt in Bath, May is definitely the odd one out. And May isn’t afraid to speak her mind. So when May meets the seemingly arrogant Duke of Radcliffe, William Spencer she isn’t afraid to tell him what she thinks of him. But what they both didn’t expect is the attraction that is immediate between them.
I loved May’s character. She was definitely unlike most woman you find in Historical Romance novels. May was honest, direct, funny and had some very different routines than most people in Bath. And I loved reading about her. May’s character definitely made me laugh a lot. And the chemistry between May and William was just perfect. You could almost feel it coming through the pages and because they were so different and both really stubborn they made for some very funny scenes.
I definitely loved reading ‘The Duke Can Go to the Devil’. I read this book in one setting, and it was just the perfect read to get me out of my reading slump. Although you definitely expect a certain ending to this kind of book, I loved the way I was still surprised by certain things.
And that cover from the Piatkus version of ‘The Duke Can Go to the Devil’ is definitely something I liked too. I love the black red combination and the way you instantly see which kind of genre this book is. ...more
