Undead in Divinity Original Sin 2 Divinity Original Sin 2 Guide, walkthrough

Last update: 09 March 2020

This page of Divinity Original Sin 2 guide contains all the information about the undead. You'll learn, among others, who are the undead, what races can become undead and what special abilities and talents they possess.

The undead are not a separate race, since they occur in four versions: undead elves, undead humans, undead dwarfs and undead lizards. For this reason, they should be treated as more of a variant of each of the races.

Thanks to a special item, they can also take the form of each of the four "living" races, gaining access to their talents and special abilities - you can read more on the topic in the chapter titled "Living or undead - how an undead character changes the game?".

A very interesting, but highly situational ability. Feigning death during a fight allows a character to take the enemy's attention away from himself, meaning the foes will focus on the other characters. The problem, however, is that the character will continue to receive damage from status effects (like burning) and his abilities will not renew.

It is best to use the ability in truly disastrous situations - in most cases it is better to use other abilities in order to survive.

One of the unique starting abilities that is only available for the character created by the player.

The ability allows one to create a small protective barrier inside which all allies will have increased immunity to all elements and will recover points of physical and magic armour each turn. The exact amount depends on the level of the character that casts the spell.

This is one of the best support abilities in the game. The characters affected are practically impossible to kill, unless one of them receives damage from several opponents in a single turn. It is well suited towards mitigating the effects of AoE attacks and abilities. Remember, however, that the ability only works when characters are inside the bubble - when they leave, the effect will wear off.

This ability can only be used when the character, for which it is available, will no longer have the Collar on his neck and will have access to Source Points. The ways of removing the collar and acquiring Source Points can be found in the sections "How to remove the Collar?" and "How to acquire Source Points?".

Important - the Undead have the same special abilities, regardless of the race they represent.

Talents - undead elves

Name

Undead

Corpse Eater

Description

Makes the poisoned status effect heal the character, but normal healing effects cause damage.

Can devour corpses to gain access to the memories of their owners.

Comments

A powerful talent, however, you need to learn how to use it effectively. The character at the very start receives 200% poison resistance, so all the effects of poison (spells, damage and poisonous food) make him regenerate health. The problem is, that normal healing effects wound the character - enemies can use healing abilities against you, in order to deal damage.

A good way to deal with this effect is to equip the character with a large amount of physical armour, since the healing effects must first pierce through it (this is different than for most of the "normal" spells, which pierce through magic armour) before they begin to wound the character.

A very interesting ability, which makes a good argument for always having at least one elf in your team. By using this skill, your hero can reach out to the memories of the deceased and get to know them, eating the body part also heals the hero for 60 health points.

Most importantly, your elf can acquire new skills that are known to the deceased, without any need for a skill book. Of course, you have no influence on what kind of skill the hero will get, but since it is a bonus you really cannot complain.

In a separate chapter of this guide you will find information about which abilities can be gained by eating particular parts of the body.

Talents - undead humans

Name

Undead

Ingenious

Description

Id.

Passive +2 bonus to Initiative and a 5% bonus chance of a critical hit.

Comments

Id.

A talent that will benefit every character. Increasing the Initiative will allow the character to move and strike faster than others. This talent also raises the critical hit chance by as much as 5%. It also gives you an excellent foundation for characters who really treasure the high critical hit chance, such as assassins or archers.

Talents - undead dwarfs

Name

Undead

Sturdy

Description

Id.

Passive bonus, increases Vitality by 10% and Dodge by 5%.

Comments

Id.

A useful talent, which will benefit characters fighting from a distance as well as warriors, who deal in melee and attract the attention of all nearby enemies.

Talents - undead lizards

Name

Undead

Sophisticated

Description

Id.

Passive +2 bonus to Fire Resistance and 10% bonus to Poison Resistance.

Comments

Id.

A talent, which offers quite a large bonus to fire and poison resistance. It is useful mainly for warriors and melee fighters, who are exposed to these two elements the most, but additional resistance is always to be appreciated, regardless of the class.
