The Sound of Warners/Yabba Dabba Boo is the 78th episode of the original Animaniacs. It originally aired on November 18, 1995. Both cartoons in this episode were animated by Wang Film Productions Co., Ltd..
In this parody of The Sound of Music, the Warners get a new, extremely nice singing nanny named Prunella Flundergust, which unfortunately, they find her to incredibly unbearable and want her out of their lives.
Tress MacNeille did five voice roles in this episode: Dot, Hello Nurse, Prunella Flunderglust, Mary Poppins and the Von Trapp's previous nanny.
The Maul from "Survey Ladies" can be seen in the opening panoramic shot.
The helicopter circling around Prunella during her first song is a reference to the helicopter that circled around Maria behind the scenes of The Sound of Music during her opening song, "The Hills Are Alive."
Since this is a parody of The Sound of Music, Prunella Flundergust is a parody of Julie Andrews' character "Maria von Trapp."
Prunella addresses the Warners as Dit (Dot), Wikky (Wakko), and Petey-Pie (Yakko)
Yakko does the longest "Uhh..." of the show in this episode.
Dr. Scratchansniff makes a callback to the segment "Potty Emergency" after Wakko calls him out for telling a bad joke about "nature calling."
In this episode, it is revealed that the Warners don't use their force or trickery when a person is being nice, kind, and polite to them; especially people who annoy them by doing that. Only when one is mean or rude to the Warners or to other people will the siblings fight back. Slappy Squirrel on the other hand...
Dot's mumbling of "Newt Gingrich" in her sleep is a reference to a deleted song from episode 77 called "Dear Mister Gingrich."
When the Warners are sleeping, Yakko can be heard having a nightmare about flubbing the lyrics to "Yakko's World".
When Prunella visits the tower at night, Dot snaps at her to go bug the kids on Goof Troop (which also stars Rob Paulsen as Pete's son, PJ).
Initially, Slappy was charging the Warners to help them to get rid of Prunella for them until she met Prunella herself. This made her decide to get rid of her for free because she too finds Prunella extremely unbearable, and it would be a pleasure getting rid of her.
Prunella later becomes the nanny of the von Trapp family in Austria when Slappy blasted her away. She arrives immediately after the Von Trapp family's previous nanny recently quits.
In the end, there's a reference of another Julie Andrews character who is a nanny named "Mary Poppins" who becomes the Warners' new nanny after Slappy blasts Prunella away.
Yabba Dabba Boo
Plot
Chicken Boo plays a script doctor for the Flintstones movie. Everything is going great and the crew is accepting of his ideas (save for one skeptical writer). However, when a man arrives bearing chicken products for lunch, Boo gets scared and reveals himself as a chicken as his disguise falls off. The staff then kicks him out in anger, and Boo once more walks off into the sunset.
The Chicken Boo theme song is changed. Instead of "You wear a disguise to look like human guys", the line is "You're jumbo-sized and you wear a disguise."
The Amblin building is essentially a redesigned version of Acme Looniversity from Tiny Toon Adventures.
Chicken Boo's fake name is Larry Gelboo, named after Larry Gelbart, a TV writer best known for creating the hit series M*A*S*H.
This is the first of several cartoons that StarToons storyboarded with Wang animating. This is because at the time, StarToons was recovering from financial troubles and staff shortages. Barring leftover Randy Beaman segments from the Fox Kids days, StarToons would later return to animating new material for the series full-time with episode 92.[1]
It's implied here that Chicken Boo's reason for disguising himself as a human is because he is afraid of being eaten.
