Who shot the hanged man in Disco Elysium? On this page of our guide, you'll find a walkthrough of the Find the murder weapon task. We explain how to successfully analyze the bullet found at the crime scene, where to find the rifle from where the bullet originated, and the sniper who made the shot.
Unlocking the task
At the crime scene behind Whirling-in-Rags, you need to start and progress with the Find the bullet before you get fooled task - it received a separate dedicated page in our guide.
With correct examining, you'll find Evidence - Fractured Bullet. Open the inventory and choose to look at it closely.
You can unlock this quest quite easily, but it's worth deciding on a full inspection and determining the type of rifle from which the shot was fired. To complete this action, you need to complete a Hand/Eye Coordination skill check.
You can increase your chances of passing the check by equipping apparel that provides bonuses to Hand/Eye Coordination skill and finding an antique weapon in the Doomed Commercial Area - it can be found in the basement near the refrigerator and this location is visited, among others, during the course of Investigate the Doomed Commercial Area task.
Successful passing of the check will allow you to determine that the sought weapon is a 4.46mm caliber rifle.
Finding 4.46mm caliber rifle
You can proceed with the next phase of the task only when you're nearing the finale of the story. You must travel to the Island (Go to the Island task).
Find the Deserter living on the island and additionally, the conversation with him is a part of Extract a confession from The Deserter task. You will immediately notice that he has a rifle with him.
During the lengthy conversation with Deserter, choose the option to pick up the weapon lying on the ground - it turns out to be Triangong 4-46.
Later in the conversation, you can ask the Deserter if he used this weapon on the hanged man next to Whirling-in-Rags. Then show him the rifle you've found earlier.
Select the option to confirm that the detectives have the murder weapon - this will conclude the task, and you'll receive 70XP.
