The western and eastern parts of the Martinaise map from the game Disco Elysium are separated by a canal with a broken water lock and drawbridge. This page of the guide explains how to close the water lock and how to access the western locations - that's the church and the fishermen's huts.

A raised drawbridge and a closed water lock are the obstacles you will encounter while exploring Martinaise in Disco Elysium. In our guide you will learn how to unlock access to the western part of the map - we explain the steps related to the water lock. Solving this puzzle will allow you to visit the fishing village, the church, the pier, and the Feld building.

Problem with drawbridge and water lock

  1. For the first 2 days of the game, you can explore only the eastern side of Martinaise - one of the districts of Revachol city. The eastern side is called Martinaise Waterfront, and among the notable buildings here, we have a Whirling-in-Rags hostel (this is where you've started your adventure), docks, a large tenement house, and a bookstore.
  2. Initially in the game, accessing and exploring the western part of the region isn't possible. South from Whirling-in-Rags you'll find an asphalt road that leads to a raised drawbridge from the screenshot. There isn't an action you can do to make the drawbridge accessible for now.

How to close the water lock?

  1. Access to the western part of the map is obtained by closing the water lock - it's located a short distance northwest of the drawbridge.
  2. For this, you need to reach the water lock panel shown in the screenshot.

This action is connected to the Close the water lock on Wednesday quest - it will be added to your journal after performing the following interactions:

  1. If it's Monday (day 1) or Tuesday (day 2), after arriving to the water lock you'll receive information that a repair is planned. At this stage of the game, closing the water lock isn't possible. Spend the first 2 days doing activities in the eastern Martinaise.
  2. If it's Wednesday (day 3), simple interaction with the panel will be enough to complete the quest (no additional skill check is needed). The sides of the water lock will join and you can now pass through the newly opened pathway, reaching the new western areas of the region.

From the moment of closing of the water lock on Wednesday, you can now visit:

  1. Fisherman's Village - there are new important NPCs in this location and additionally, a new resting place allowing you to conclude the day. Also a potential fast travel destination.
  2. Church - there are a few important quests connected to this location. Also a potential fast travel destination.
  3. Pier - You can find corpses on it and start investigating a new crime scene.
  4. Feld building - this structure will play a role in the final stages of the story.

Try to explore these locations thoroughly during Day 3 and Day 4.
