How to unlock fast travel in Disco Elysium? This question may present an important issue for players, as fast travel can and will shorten unnecessary long treks between individual sections of the Martinaise district. Our guide explains what the requirements are to make fast travel available, when it can be activated, and whether using fast travel will lead to a time-lapse in the game world.

Obtaining a map and unlocking fast travel

1 - Disco Elysium: How to use fast travel? - FAQ - Disco Elysium Guide
  1. Fast travel isn't available right at the start of the game. To unlock access to this option, you need to meet 2 basic requirements.
  2. The first of these is carrying a physical copy of the Martinaise map and we explain this step in detail on How to get map? page of our guide. As a reminder - you need to visit the bookstore, go to the first floor, and buy or steal the item.
2 - Disco Elysium: How to use fast travel? - FAQ - Disco Elysium Guide
  1. The second requirement is closing the water lock i.e. unlocking the western part of the district. For an exact walkthrough of the process, visit How to get to western Martinaise? page of our guide. Hint - visiting this part of the district is only possible starting from Wednesday (day 3).
  2. Proceed west in the direction of the fishing village. At some point, a message should appear stating that fast travel has been unlocked (screenshot above).

From now on, after opening your journal, you can switch to a second tab (Map) where the entire district of Martinaise is visible - Disco Elysium: How to use fast travel? - FAQ - Disco Elysium Guide

From now on, after opening your journal, you can switch to a second tab (Map) where the entire district of Martinaise is visible.

There are only 3 fast travel destinations in the entire game. These are:

  1. Martinaise Waterfront (1 on the screenshot) - takes you to a square in front of Whirling-in-Rags, which is the hostel where you've started your adventure. In the area there are also, among others, a bookstore and Kim's car.
  2. Fishing Village - (2 on the screenshot) - this is the main part of the fishing village in the western part of the district (available from day 3), with the old woman and the hut where the protagonist can stay.
  3. Church (3 on the screenshot) - a place of worship located north of the fishing village.

An additional, serious limitation of the fast travel mechanic is that you can only change locations when standing close to the mentioned areas i.e. before the Whirling-in-Rags hostel, in the center of the fishing village, or in front of the Church. You cannot move to these locations from anywhere in the game world.

Using fast travel doesn't cause time to pass. This means not having to worry about wasting time, or missing a quest with a time limitation. We recommend using fast travel primarily for easier travel between the eastern and western parts of the map.
